A principal objective of a dialogue is to bridge the gap in knowledge about other civilizations, cultures and societies, to lay the foundations for dialogue based on universally shared values and to undertake concrete activities, inspired and driven by dialogue, especially in the areas of education, cultural diversity and heritage, the sciences and communication and media.

The resource requirements for 2011/12 reflect a decrease of 5.5 per cent as compared with the 2010/11 period, which is attributable primarily to: (a) reduced resources for salaries, including post adjustment and common staff costs for international staff; (b) reduced requirements for construction services, and acquisition of related equipment, which now mainly comprise costs for the construction of camps to support the full deployment of UNAMID as well as the repair and construction of major infrastructures in Darfur, including roads, bridges, parking aprons, airstrips and taxiways of the three airports in Darfur, and helipads; and (c) reduced requirements for rations based on the prevailing contract terms.
