Finally, my delegation would like to express its strong support for the draft presidential statement that the Council will adopt today and for the request to the Secretary-General to prepare a follow-up to his 2004 report on the rule of law and transitional justice in conflict and post-conflict societies (S/2004/616).

In the context of this short intervention, please allow me to highlight just a few of the actions that were proposed: to commit to the fight against childhood obesity and promote healthy weight by sharing strategies and actions with and between our respective Governments, institutions and communities to support effective public policies and multilevel comprehensive strategies to address obesity, based on the principles as described in the call for action; to facilitate the accumulation and exchange of knowledge on which projects and strategies have proved effective and in which settings; to increase awareness that obesity has a significant impact on labour productivity, and therefore on the social and economic development of countries; to invest in health promotion to prevent and reduce obesity; to incorporate obesity data into chronic disease surveillance systems; and to monitor, measure and evaluate progress made to reduce the prevalence of obesity and its associated risk factors.

Given that in all of the approved HPMPs the HCFC phase-out targets and starting points for aggregate reductions in HCFC consumption have been agreed, and the levels of funding have been approved in principle, and noting the number of tranche requests likely to be submitted, the Executive Committee may consider whether it would like to continue to discuss each request individually or, alternatively, whether the Secretariat should be requested to submit all future tranches of stage I of HCFC phase-out management plans for blanket approval provided they are in accordance with relevant policies and decisions of the Multilateral Fund, given that they contain no policy issues, and that all technical and cost issues have been agreed between the Secretariat and relevant bilateral and/or implementing agencies.

Taking note of the reports of the Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance submitted to the Human Rights Council at its fourth, sixth, ninth and twelfth sessions,9 in which the Special Rapporteur highlighted the serious nature of the defamation of all religions and the need to complement legal strategies, and reiterating the call of the Special Rapporteur to all States to wage a systematic campaign against incitement to racial and religious hatred by maintaining a careful balance between the defence of secularism and respect for freedom of religion and by acknowledging and respecting the complementarity of all the freedoms embodied in internationally agreed human rights instruments, including the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights

There is no consensus on the definition of the term, and use of the term may mean legitimizing concepts that reinforce inequalities among economies, rationalize trade protectionism, involve new forms of conditionalities, promote further commodification and financialization of nature, and push new supposedly “green” technologies that do not conform to the Precautionary Principle established at the Earth Summit.
