That is the new approach that I proposed as soon as I was inaugurated to settle the territorial conflict that has divided my country and France for just over 30 years.

By preparing, nurturing and advocating for systematic dialogue between the scientific and policy communities, MOST promotes research and action for collective knowledge development, with a view to tearing down boundaries between different professional cultures and making concrete contributions to the construction of more equitable societies.

While this was originally done to protect minority students from ethnically based violence, it tended to deepen the dividing lines between the different ethnicities, reinforce stereotypes and nullify reconciliation efforts.

For example, in Lithuania, a conference was held on the theme “Philosophy: a chance for intercultural misunderstanding”, the University of Aleppo (Syria) also dealt with the theme “Learning philosophy ... learning to dialogue”, and the University of Beijing initiated debate on “dialogue among youth in South Asia”.

That, my friends, creates some sort of a divide of which, unfortunately, we are not aware when we sit here and talk about such issues, inasmuch as we have the noblest intentions, beliefs, concepts, paradigms and ideology.

The Constitution set out the framework within which to overcome the legacy of apartheid, predicated on the country’s collective desire to heal the divisions of the past and to establish a society based on democratic values, social justice and fundamental human rights and to progressively improve the quality of life for its people and to build a united democratic South Africa able to take its rightful place among the community of nations.

Cultural and language barriers also make contact more difficult, and that is why new concepts are currently being applied.

The clear goal of Kosovo’s government and the international community was to create a state for all Kosovo citizens, in order to overcome separations along ethnic lines and to advance the interests of all communities in Kosovo through participation in democratic and multi-ethnic institutions.

They have one cause, one just cause, and Egypt will make every effort to bridge the gaps between them so as to achieve the supreme Palestinian interest.

(g) The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) should be further strengthened and supported in its role as the national human rights institution responsible for promoting and protecting human rights in Afghanistan and bridging the gap between the Government and civil society.

Every country and people of the region has had enough of the obstacles blocking the road to peace, the violence and counter-violence, the victims, tragedies, destruction, mistrust, hatred and alienation.

Since its inception, the Alliance of Civilizations has provided a sound platform to this end, and today it has become a truly global peace initiative aimed at breaking down walls of misperception, connecting people and building bridges towards peaceful cohabitation.

But to achieve this goal, Bosnia’s leaders must work together across ethnic lines and party lines and interact with the rest of the world as a single sovereign State.

We believe that the Alliance of Civilizations initiative, which we launched together with Spain, is now a truly global peace initiative aimed at breaking down walls of misperception, connecting people and building bridges towards peaceful cohabitation.
