Ten national, regional and local foundations have committed $100 million to this unprecedented eight-year initiative, including the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan (Detroit), the Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Foundation (Southfield, Michigan), the Ford Foundation (New York), the Hudson-Webber Foundation (Detroit), the W.K. Kellogg Foundation (Battle Creek, Michigan), the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation (Miami), The Kresge Foundation (Troy, Michigan), the McGregor Fund (Detroit), the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation (Flint, Michigan), and the Skillman Foundation (Detroit).

Presentations were made by the following panellists: Hany Dimian, Deputy Chairman of the International Monetary and Financial Committee and Deputy Finance Minister of Egypt; John Eatwell, Professor, University of Cambridge; Adib Mayaleh, Chair of the Group of 24, Governor of the Central Bank of Syria; Louis Michel, European Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid; Joakim Stymne, State Secretary, International Development Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden; and Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul, Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany, Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for the Conference.

At the same meeting, speaking on behalf of the Rio Group, the representative of Chile: reiterated the Group’s support for the legitimate rights of Argentina in the sovereignty dispute with the United Kingdom; recalled its declaration and special communiqué on the exploration for fossil fuels on the continental shelf around the Islands, adopted by the Heads of State and Government of Latin America and the Caribbean gathered at the Unity Summit held in Mexico on 22 and 23 February 2010; rejected the military activities of the United Kingdom in the Islands, which ran counter to the region’s policy of seeking a solution to the dispute through peaceful means; and also recalled the declaration on that matter that had been adopted in Santiago in October 2010 (see A/C.4/66/SR.2).

In its present form the list of approved Fathers comprises Cyprian, Gregory Nazianzen, Basil, Athanasius, Chrysostom, Theophilus, Hilary, Cyril of Alexandria (wanting in one manuscript), Ambrose, Augustine, Jerome, Prosper, Leo ("every iota" of the tome to Flavian is to be accepted under anathema), and "also the treatises of all orthodox Fathers, who deviated in nothing from the fellowship of the holy Roman Church, and were not separated from her faith and preaching, but were participators through the grace of God until the end of their life in her communion; also the decretal letters, which most blessed popes have given at various times when consulted by various Fathers, are to be received with veneration".

Under rule 71 of the rules of procedure of the General Assembly, SADC would like to express its strong protest at the decision to invite Mr. Andry Nirina Rajoelina to take the floor during the general debate of the Assembly and to invite the Republic of Madagascar to participate in the work of the General Assembly at its sixty-fourth session.

In session II.2 Alessandro Motter, IPU Senior Adviser for Economic and Social Affairs, Sandagdorj Erdenebileg, Acting Director of OHRLLS and Executive Secretary of the Conference, and Saber Chowdhury, Member of Parliament (Bangladesh), elaborated on a joint IPU/OHRLLS project proposal and accompanying parliamentary action plan to get parliaments actively involved in the future implementation of the Istanbul Programme of Action.

At its 2nd meeting, on 29 November, the Conference heard statements by Léo Mérorès (Haiti), President of the Economic and Social Council; Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul, Special Envoy of the Secretary-General to the Conference; Trevor Manuel, Special Envoy of the Secretary-General to the Conference; Philippe Douste-Blazy, Special Adviser of the Secretary-General on Innovative Financing for Development; and Kemal Derviş, Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme, in his capacity as the Chairman of the United Nations Development Group.

At the request of certain Members, I agreed to delete this specific component because the findings and resolutions of the Earth Summit are not yet well known in Hong Kong, and it was believed that the motion would be left broadly phrased to embrace any specifics that may have been taken up at Rio.
