The stench of the hold while we were on the coast was so intolerably loathsome, that it was dangerous to remain there for any time, and some of us had been permitted to stay on the deck for the fresh air; but now that the whole ship’s cargo were confined together, it became absolutely pestilential.

The Committee regrets that there is still no comprehensive system of recording and analysing abuses committed against children and that mechanisms [...] [...]

In order to reach the latter objective, measures are taken to prevent mistreatment of children, to raise community awareness of how to recognise mistreated children and notify the relevant support institutions, and a system is developed to assist mistreated children.

The Committee recommends that the State party take all measures to render the Act, once adopted, applicable in all administrative and judicial proceedings and launch awareness-raising programmes and trainings for all professional working with and for children so as to offer children greater respect for their privacy and dignity, in particular child victims [...] [...]

The Security Council calls upon the Secretary-General to redouble his efforts to ensure the strengthening of the monitoring and reporting mechanism’s capacities with a view to the implementation of resolution 1882 (2009) to allow for prompt advocacy and effective response to all violations and abuses committed against children, inter alia, by [...] [...]

The Committee also recommends that instances of abuse and neglect of children be properly investigated within a child-sensitive inquiry and judicial procedure in order to ensure better protection of child victims, particularly the protection of their right to privacy.

At its sixty-third session, the General Assembly took note of the appointment by the Secretary-General of a new Coordinator for Multilingualism; requested the Secretary-General to ensure equal treatment for all language services and effective multilingual communication among representatives of Member States, including through simultaneous distribution of documents in all official languages; requested the Department of Public Information to improve actions taken to achieve parity among the six official languages on the United Nations website; and requested the Secretary-General to submit to it at its sixty-fifth session a comprehensive report on the full implementation of its resolutions on multilingualism (resolution 63/306).

While welcoming the initiatives taken to protect children from abuse and noting the State party’s acknowledgment of the need for addressing this issue, the Committee expresses concern at the incidence of child abuse in the State party.
