Gyumri
/ˈgjʊmrɪ/- an industrial city in NW Armenia, close to the border with Turkey; pop. 147,000 (est. 2008). Founded as a fortress in 1837, the city was destroyed by an earthquake in 1926 and again in 1988. It was formerly called Aleksandropol (1840-1924) and Leninakan (1924-91). Russian name KUMAYRI.久姆里(亚美尼亚西北部工业城市, 紧靠亚美尼亚与土耳其边界, 2008年估计人口147,000, 1837年作为边防要塞建立, 1926年、1988年曾两次毁于地震, 曾用名亚历山德罗波尔[1840-1924]和列宁纳坎[1924-1991]; 俄语名KUMAYRI)。
