Saladin
/ˈsælədɪn/- (1137-93) , sultan of Egypt and Syria 1174-93; Arabic name Salah-ad-Din Yusuf ibn-Ayyub. Saladin reconquered Jerusalem from the Christians in 1187, but he was defeated by Richard the Lionheart at Arsuf (1191).
