Trieste
/trɪˈest/- a city in NE Italy, the largest port on the Adriatic and capital of Friuli-Venezia Giulia region; pop. 205,341 (2008). Formerly held by Austria (1382-1918), Trieste was annexed by Italy after the First World War.
