Sagan1, Carl (Edward) (1934-96), American astronomer. Sagan showed that amino acids can be synthesized in an artificial primordial soup irradiated by ultraviolet light - a possible origin of life on the earth. Sagan2, Françoise (1935-2004), French novelist, dramatist, and short-story writer; pseudonym of Françoise Quoirez.
