Provence
/prɒˈvɒns,〈法〉 pʀɔvãs/- a former province of SE France, on the Mediterranean coast east of the Rhône. Settled by the Greeks in the 6th century BC,the area around Marseilles became, in the 1st century BC,part of the Roman colony of Gaul. It was united with France in 1481 and is now part of the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.普罗旺斯(原法国东南部省份, 位于罗讷河东部的地中海沿岸, 公元前6世纪希腊人在此定居, 公元前1世纪马赛周围地区成为罗马殖民地高卢的一部分; 1481年与法国统一, 现为普罗旺斯-阿尔卑斯一蓝岸地区一部分)。
