Moore¹, Bobby (1941-93), English footballer; full name Robert Frederick Moore. A defender who spent most of his career with West Ham United, he captained the English team that won the World Cup in 1966.

Moore², Dudley (Stuart John) (1935-2002), English actor, comedian, and musician. He appeared with Peter Cook in the television shows Beyond the Fringe (1959-64) and Not Only... But Also (1964-70). His films include Arthur (1981).

Moore³, Francis (1657-c.1715), English physician, astrologer, and schoolmaster. His almanacs of meteorological and astrological predictions gave their name to the range of almanacs called 'Old Moore' available today

Moore⁵, G. E. (1873-1958), English moral philosopher and member of the Bloomsbury Group; full name George Edward Moore. Notable works: Principia Ethica (1903).

Moore⁶, Henry (Spencer) (1898-1986), English sculptor and draughtsman. His work is characterized by semi-abstract reclining forms, large upright figures, and family groups, which Moore intended to be viewed in the open air.

Moore⁷, Sir John (1761-1809), British general. He commanded the British army during the Peninsular War and was killed at Corunna.

Moore⁸, Thomas (1779-1852), Irish poet and musician. He wrote patriotic and nostalgic songs set to Irish tunes, notably 'The Harp that once through Tara's Halls' and 'The Minstrel Boy', and is also known for the oriental romance Lalla Rookh (1817)
