- a large cathedral in London. It was designed in the late 17th century by Sir Christopher Wren to replace a previous cathedral destroyed in the Fire of London, and was completed in 1710. It has a large dome (= a round roof with a circular base), inside which is the famous Whispering Gallery. The cathedral contains the graves of many famous people, including Lord Nelson, the Duke of Wellington and Christopher Wren himself.“Si monumentum requiris, circumspice.
