In Karachi alone more than 1,350 people have been killed in the streets so far this year, many of them in the drive-byshootings that have become the tragic hallmark of a war of ethnic rivalries.
And it is hard to recall sometimes, visiting Pristina's lively nightlife, that in the late 1990s the window seats in restaurants here were avoided for the risk of grenades and drive-byshootings.
