The map was compiled from observations by the Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) and the Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit (AMSU-A) on NASA's Aqua satellite.

In this paper a parameterized method based on turbulent statistical theory is proposed to estimate atmospheric diffusion coefficients from sounder facsimile chart.
