November 1 — Sony announces the development of Ultra Density optical (UDO), a blue-laser optical disc format proposed to replace magneto-optical discs.

The new equipment is based on Faraday Magneto-Optical Effect, and transforms the distribution of magnetic field into laser polarization figure.

The influence of the magneto-optical coupling parameter and the wavelength stability of laser on the extracted clock is also analyzed;
