Many teachers at this level have completed higher education and are graduates of universities or higher education schools (pedagogical academies).

A host of concrete proposals were suggested to the coordinators of the Dialogue, such as: dialogue and networking among universities; dialogue among young scientists, involving UNESCO chairholders in dialogue activities; dialogue among student journalists and seasoned media practitioners from both regions; the holding of youth forums; reactivation of the Committee for the Translation of Literary Works and increase in the translation of Arabic works into European languages; a comparative study of school textbooks; dialogue involving professionals from cultural industries; the organization of an interregional conference on the image of Arab-Islamic culture in European history books.

Promotion of human rights and the fight against discrimination: UNESCO will implement the UNESCO Strategy on Human Rights, aimed at strengthening outreach, advancing policy-oriented research on rights within UNESCO’s areas of competence, especially through the consolidation of two regional research networks in Latin America and in Africa and a strengthening of cooperation with principal partners, such as national human rights institutions, UNESCO Chairs, universities, and human rights research and training institutions.

Those efforts included encouraging universities to offer modules on space law; providing fellowships for graduate and postgraduate education in space law; assisting in the development of national space legislation and policy frameworks; organizing workshops, seminars and other specialized activities to promote greater understanding of space law; providing financial and technical support for legal research; preparing dedicated studies, papers and publications on space law; supporting space law moot court competitions; supporting the participation of young professionals in regional and international meetings relating to space law; providing for training and other opportunities to build experience; and supporting entities dedicated to the study of and research relating to space law.

Whilst it is recognized that the salary and benefits package of local universities' academics compare favourably with that of many, though by no means all, of their counterparts in universities and equivalent institutions elsewhere, the Administration considers that any direct comparison between the remuneration of academic staff in money terms could be misleading because the figures have to be interpreted in the context of each country's social and economic environment, the prevailing standard of living, inflation rate, purchasing power and market forces as well as relativities with other professions, which are essentially the factors determining the remuneration of academic staff.

One solution might be for universities to work in partnership with industry and government to establish and fund such programs.

Education for the adults is implemented through: full-time day studies, evening studies, part-time studies, distance learning, etc; independently, or on the basis of a contract signed with various state, or private institutions; open universities, guild halls, art schools, clubs, associations, foundations, in-service refresher courses.

Because much of the scientific and technological expertise in developing countries is concentrated in the public sector, there will need to be careful consideration of the implications of patenting by research institutions and universities.

To contribute to the cultivation of intellectual capital management (ICM) talents and promote the holding of symposiums on ICM systems as well as the building of related systems, the Education Management Information Center of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and Japan’s Actcell Corporation have jointly organized the “ICM Enterprise Case Study Contest” with universities in China.

The Committee also recommends that the State party take all appropriate measures to ensure that Turkmen students enrolled at universities abroad are allowed to leave the country and pursue their studies.

The Representative of FAO stressed the importance of making best use of existing scientific institutes and universities at national level to ensure that available data is effectively used in standard and food safety programming activities as well as in relevant international expert meeting within the FAO/WHO programme on the provision of scientific advice.

(h) International and national research institutes and universities should be encouraged to develop partnerships and collaborate with non-governmental organizations, government agencies and the private sector to support the advancement of women in STI, especially in developing countries.

If universities can seek improvements on their public image according to these survey results, why shouldn』t an independent organization carry out similar surveys and release the data as public information?

In fact, recent data show that about two thirds of the arrivals to the top 10 tourism markets in the region originate in the region itself, and the large majority of international students studying in the region’s universities also come from the region.

From 1 January 2001, as the Auditor General of the Republic of Uganda, the responsibilities have mainly been to effectively implement the constitutional provision of Article 163, which requires the Auditor General to audit and report to Parliament annually on the public accounts of Uganda and all public offices including the courts, the central and local government administrations, universities, public corporations and such bodies as established by an Act of Parliament.
