In the agreement between Croatia and the Executive Committee, the maximum allowable consumption for Annex A, Group I (CFCs) for the year 2005 was 65 ODP tonnes, for 2010 0 ODP tonne; and for the years in between, the agreement provides no exact figure but stipulates that "The By-Law on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer (of 30 January 1999) includes a clause on importing on an exceptional basis between 2006 and 2009 up to 21.9 ODP tonnes of Annex A (Groups I and II) and/or Annex B (Groups II and III) or products containing these substances, when these substances and/or products are for preserving human, plant and/or animal life; national defence, safety and fire-fighting; and scientific research safety, when such products cannot be replaced by environmentally-sound and economically-viable alternatives”.

He or she would offer continual guidance on safety issues and policy both to field operations and the various entities responsible for the delivery of support in the areas mentioned above to ensure unity and integration of effort; work with relevant Headquarters and mission staff, Member States (in particular troop- and policecontributing countries) and safety specialists of external organizations to clarify multi-hazard safety standards and guidance for implementation in missions; develop a generic field safety reporting and incident database for use by field operations and Headquarters in monitoring global safety and to support senior management and troop- and police-contributing countries in their awareness and decision-making; and keep Member States informed on fire safety as it affects personnel from troopand police-contributing countries.

It is responsible for providing day-to-day support to existing field operations; preparing engineering mission resource plans and budgets for start-up missions; preparing engineering guidelines and policies related to environment, accommodation, power, water, asset management and fire prevention and assisting in providing technical support in researching and providing a continuous supply of water to the missions; establishing global system contracts for generators, electrical equipment, prefabricated structures, water purification and waste water systems, field defence stores and construction services; and monitoring the utilization of the engineering system contracts; and preparing the budget and performance reports of the Section.

Preparatory measures taken in time of peace for the safeguarding of cultural property against the foreseeable effects of an armed conflict pursuant to Article 3 of the Convention shall include, as appropriate, the preparation of inventories, the 34 planning of emergency measures for protection against fire or structural collapse, the preparation for the removal of movable cultural property or the provision for adequate in situ protection of such property, and the designation of competent authorities responsible for the safeguarding of cultural property.

Failure to follow this warning could cause fire, explosion, and electric shock and result in serious injury and property damage.

(o) To carry on business as financiers, financial agents, capitalists, underwriters, (but not in respect of life, marine or fire insurance), concessionaires and brokers and to undertake and carry on and execute all kinds of financial, commercial, trading and other operations; to receive money or valuables on deposit at interest and/or upon such other terms as may be thought fit and to carry on all or any of the activities of a banker.

(b) and includes any component part of any weapon mentioned in paragraph (a) (i) or (ii), any accessory to any such weapon designed or adapted to diminish the noise or flash caused by firing the weapon and any explosive-operated power tool, ramset, hilt or fire nail fastener operated by pneumatic pressure; (c) but does not include an article designed or adapted solely to discharge a spear for spearing fish.

The past eight years of terror and the period of so-called calm have taught us that any arrangement must be fully respected and secured, including the total cessation of rocket fire and smuggling, in order to be durable and to allow the possibility of lasting peace.

To reduce the risk of over-pressurizing any part of your system, which may result in component rupture, fire or explosion and cause serious bodily injury, be sure you know the maximum working pressure rating of each pump and its connected components.

Nevertheless, such renewable energy projects face serious challenges competing with conventional fossil fuel-fired power projects, as technologies are still evolving and costs have remained relatively high.

UNDP had submitted a request for the Islamic Republic of Iran for project preparation for an overarching HPMP strategy, well as sector plans for aerosols, fire fighting, foam, RAC manufacturing and solvents to meet Stage I of the HCFC control measure.

Mercury is traded globally and is used in products and chlor-alkali plants; it is emitted from coal-fired power plants, incinerators, cement kilns and contaminated sites.

A member of the Secretariat participated in the meeting on “Heritage under Fire: The Protection of Cultural Property in Wartime” organized by the British Red Cross (London, United Kingdom, 26 June 2001), which focused on different legal instruments for the protection of cultural property in the event of armed conflict and the need for the participation of the United Kingdom in the Convention.

It must also be ensured that any fire fighting equipment which may be coupled with the tripping of the protective relay will not be activated.

Mr. Verdonik summarized the survey results, noting that some States had indicated that their airlines, which serviced both domestic and international markets, said that foreign suppliers provided the halon to fill the fire extinguishers in their fleets and that some States were unaware of any company that recycled halon for aviation fire extinguishers within their country, and therefore, on the basis of those initial replies, it was likely that many States depended on the availability of halon in the few countries that supplied the aviation industry as a whole, and not on stocks within their own States.

The ship’s cargo contained approximately 40 tons of weaponry, including C-704 advanced anti-ship missiles, their launchers (with a range of 35 km), radar systems and fire control systems, along with mortar shells and small arms munitions.

However, because of the no-fly zone and the immobilization of Qadhafi’s air force, these weapons were not really needed during the conflict; while some of them may have been fired on occasion either in a surface-to-air or surface-to-surface role, owing to a lack of knowledge of their use, they were not a weapon of choice for military combat.

There are plans to open new departments and centres devoted to the following: new technologies and management, advertising and library marketing, technical literature and exact sciences, organization of popular and cultural events, service for the disabled, dissertations, registration and statistics, cartographic publications, a heat and sanitation unit, a unit to service electrical equipment and elevators, units for fire safety, construction and repair, publications, a legal information centre, a centre for Tajik studies, a language centre, a department to organize exhibitions, a media centre, a service for further training of librarians and a centre for library science studies and teaching.

Initiatives funded under the project included the following: a survey on public perception of the security sector; support for the regulation of private security companies; an assessment of the capacity of the Government to respond to complex emergencies; support for early warning mechanisms to be established by the Secretariat of State for Security; a lecture series on security sector reform hosted by the President; training for key security sector personnel; an assessment of the operational capacity of national fire service equipment; training on the rehabilitation of radio communication equipment; and placement of national and international advisers in key State institutions.

The system of alarm centres has developed consistently and now people only need to remember one phone number (112) for the alarm centre which allows them to contact either the police, ambulance or fire service depending on the type of the problem.

On a separate matter, according to information provided, on 9 October 2010 Argentina submitted a letter of protest to the United Kingdom rejecting that country’s intent to fire missiles from the Territory as “an unacceptable provocation conducive to an arms race in the region, which is in direct contradiction to the Argentine policy of consistently seeking a peaceful solution to the dispute” (see A/65/504, annex).

Attention should be given to the requirements on horizontal imposed loads, protection of openings, function of protective barriers, corrosion protection, quality control of materials and protection against the spread of fire and smoke between floors.
