A first set of studies on actual displacements of populations due to environmental issues was started in Asia-Pacific and Africa, and a first publication on the impact of climate change on migration was prepared to serve as background material for an agenda-setting exercise within the United Nations to draw attention to this theme for future policies.

A second direction for new initiatives will probably be found in outreach for raising awareness among the general public on the potential of our planet for future generations and to encourage young people to learn more about our home planet, its powers, its beauty and its challenges.

The following entry points for future cooperation and possible joint programmes with other United Nations agencies are planned: literacy and non-formal education (with UNDP and UNICEF); improvement of teachers’ standards of living (with ILO); development of teacher policies (with UNICEF) and the inclusion of marginalized groups in the education system (with the ILO, UNICEF, UNDP and WFP).

Restoring men and women to centre stage in the concerns of the universe is a fundamental step in order merely to begin to trace a basic outline for a future of certainty that seeks to replace the frustrations of managing the development paradigm with the realities of a world in which wellbeing is much more tangible.

The satellite was launched together with the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) on 18 June 2009, as part of the shared Lunar Precursor Robotic Program, the first American mission to the Moon in more than 10 years.
