The excessive and indiscriminate fire caused serious damage to the boats, further undermining the livelihoods of the fishermen whose families depend on these boats for their income and survival.

As the Palestinian civilian population continues to be subjected to Israel’s indiscriminate, excessive and disproportionate use of force by means of tanks, F-16s, helicopters and other heavy weapons, including white phosphorous shells and dense inert metal explosive bombs, the profound human suffering continues to mount, as the people of Gaza have nowhere to run and nowhere to seek refuge.

For those launching attacks, this includes doing everything feasible to verify that the objectives to be attacked are neither civilians nor civilian objects and refraining from any indiscriminate attacks, including those that may be expected to cause incidental civilian casualties that would be excessive in relation to the concrete and direct military advantage anticipated from that specific attack.

Regrettably, in blatant violation of Security Council resolution 1860 (2009) and despite regional and international efforts, Israel, the occupying Power, continues its military attacks, using excessive, indiscriminate and disproportionate force by all means of heavy weaponry by air, land and sea against heavily populated civilian areas in the Gaza Strip.

The Lebanese people suffered directly not only in the flesh but also in terms of their means of subsistence and survival throughout the crisis, as opportunities for channelling humanitarian aid were seriously curtailed by the violence of the indiscriminate bombardments, by the air, land and sea blockade and by the methodical destruction of the country’s main highways and bridges.

In that letter the Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs, after recalling “that the present crisis has been provoked by a callous and indiscriminate terror campaign launched against the citizens of Israel” which has claimed “over 400 dead in the past 18 months and more than 120 victims in March alone, not counting the hundreds of wounded and the devastation inflicted on Israel cities, as well as the suffering it has caused the Palestinian people themselves”, assured the Director-General that his government was particularly anxious “to avoid, as far as possible, damage to property and innocent individuals, as a matter of policy, especially in populated areas … and is very conscious of how important it is to protect and preserve monuments of cultural and religious values, for the benefit of generations to come”.

Cobra Commander uses the projector to broadcast a message to the assembled UN representatives, in which he demands that all nations on earth turn control of their resources over to the Cobra organization within 24 hours, or face indiscriminate attacks upon their capital cities.

Concerned at the renewed exchange of fire in Gaza and the south of Israel, following the firing of rockets by Islamic Jihad into Israel, the European Union condemned the indiscriminate targeting of civilians and called on all sides to respect the ceasefire.
