The Observer from the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) recalled that OIV was an intergovernmental organization of a scientific and technical nature with recognized expertise in the field of vines, wine and wine-based beverages, table grapes and raisins and other vine-based products and that the cooperation between OIV and Codex had produced positive results in several areas of Codex work such as food additives and contaminants, methods of analysis, labelling, etc. of interest to producers and consumers.

Additional illegal practices include changing the demographic composition and legal status of Jerusalem by expelling Palestinian inhabitants; the destruction of the historic Shepherd Hotel in East Jerusalem under a plan to construct a new settlement of 20 housing units, which threatens the geographic contiguity of the Palestinian territories and the viability of any future Palestinian State; the recent adoption by the municipal Government of Jerusalem of a plan to build 124 new housing units around East Jerusalem; and the recent announcement by the Jerusalem planning commission of a new plan providing for the construction of a further 1,400 housing units for Jewish settlers in annexed land in the occupied West Bank.

It further supports the implementation of the World Health Assembly-endorsed 2008-2013 Action Plan for the Global Strategy for the Prevention and Control of non-communicable diseases, the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, the Global Strategy on Diet, Physical Activity and Health, and the evidence-based strategies and interventions to reduce the public health problems caused by the harmful use of alcohol.

Also, conditions and methods of production, distribution of food products are prescribed in the following laws: Law No. 115-XVI from 09.06.2005 on the ecological food production (regulates the method of production of ecological food products without the usage of chemical growth acceleration substances, as well as methods of distribution of ecologic products of vegetable and animal origin), Law No. 78-XV from 18.03.2004 on food products (regulates the production, processing and distribution of food products, as well as the basic conditions of circulation of such products), Law No. 70-XVI from 30.03.2006 on apiculture (regulates the creation of conditions for quality and quantity growth of apicultural production), Law No. 57-XVI from 10.03.2006 on vineyards and wine (regulates the relations that exist in the activity of production, processing and distribution of vineyard products).

The only such sources available in commercial quantities globally are yeast-derived products, including brewer’s yeast and extracted fermented yeast products, but with limited information concerning their total global production and availability.
