Concerning the establishment of a survivors’ lump-sum benefit in the event of the death of serving judges of the Tribunals, based on its consideration of the note by the Secretary-General (A/C.5/54/30), the General Assembly, in paragraph 7 of its resolution 54/240 A, approved the recommendations of the Advisory Committee and established a lump-sum benefit whereby survivors would be compensated in the form of a lump-sum equivalent to one month of base salary for each year of service, subject to a minimum of one month and a maximum of four months.

A parent or guardian of a provider’s child who is not employed and is raising the provider’s child who is under 3 years of age in his or her family also has the right to a survivor’s pension.

These other conditions of service include the special allowance of the President and of the Vice-President when acting as President, education allowance, health insurance, survivors’ benefit, travel and subsistence regulations and retirement benefits.

As compared to the first State Pension Insurance Act, pensions are now indexed, a deferred old-age pension has been introduced, the rate of the survivor’s pension has been revised and the range of persons entitled to the survivor’s pension has been extended, and the national pension and the early-retirement pension is paid to pensioners also when they continue to work.

A deferred old-age pension is not granted to a person to whom a state pension has been granted (except a survivor’s pension or a national pension upon loss of a provider).

His recommendations, contained in paragraphs 18 to 25 of the report, related to emoluments, travel and subsistence benefits, education allowance, survivors’ lump-sum benefit, general conditions and medical insurance.

(3) Communication policy: As part of the Fund’s enhanced communications policy, individual booklets are issued and distributed on specialized topics drawn from the Regulations, Rules and Pension Adjustment System of the Fund: two-track pension adjustment system, rights to validation and restoration, disability entitlements, survivor’s benefits, etc.

Above all, allow me once more to convey, on behalf of all members of the Asian Group, our profound condolences to the Pakistani people and to the bereaved families of the victims of this catastrophe.

It was the view of the Secretary-General that consideration should be given to applying the floor/ceiling mechanism to pensions in payment to former judges and their survivors who resided in the euro zone countries to protect the level of pensions from further erosion.

The range of persons entitled to a survivor’s pension has also been expanded.

With effect from 1 January 2009, the commutation, transfer values and other actuarial factors, such as those relating to survivor benefits, would be modified to reflect the new mortality tables.

A provider’s non-working widow who is pregnant (from the twelfth week of pregnancy), a provider’s widow or widower who is permanently incapacitated for work or of pensionable age and whose marriage to the provider had a duration of at least one year (under previous version five years) are now also entitled to a survivors pension.

The benefits under the OAS program include the basic OAS pension, which is paid to virtually all seniors, the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) for low-income seniors, and the Allowances for low-income Canadians aged 60 to 64 who are the spouses or common-law partners of GIS recipients or survivors.

On behalf of all Member States, and on my own account, I should like to convey heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of the late Professor De Marco and to the people and the Government of Malta.

This lump-sum benefit is distinct from the applicable survivors’ pension benefits.

In section III of its resolution 59/282, the General Assembly decided, with retroactive effect from 1 January 2005, to increase the annual value of all pensions in payment by 6.3 per cent as an interim measure and requested the SecretaryGeneral to submit a comprehensive report to the General Assembly at its sixty-first session on the protection of pensions in payment to former judges and their survivors as well as on the differences between the pension benefits of the judges of the two Tribunals on the one hand and the members of the Court on the other.

We strongly condemn and deplore this heinous attack, and extend once again our condolences to the bereaved families of those who lost their lives, as well as to the UNAMA personnel and the entire United Nations family.

Survivors’ Benefits: The deceased insurance holder must have been insured for at least 5 years or 900 days and have paid old-age, invalidity and decease insurance premiums for at least 180 days a year.

The agreement was signed in order to enable Iraqis to carry out DNA tests on the remains of victims buried in mass graves, identify those remains and return them to their families after years of suffering from not knowing the fate of their loved ones.

Convention No. 102 establishes worldwideagreed minimum standards for all nine branches of social security: medical care, sickness benefit, unemployment benefit, old-age benefit, employment injury benefit, family benefit, maternity benefit, invalidity benefit and survivors’ benefit.

Compensation Payments are due to staff members and their dependants in case of death, injury or illness attributable to the performance of official duties and, in certain circumstances, to supplement the disability and survivors' pensions paid by the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund.

Healthcare and ancillary needs (treatments, required medical aids, travel and transport costs) and payments (daily benefits allowance, disability pensions, settlements, lump-sum compensation and perpetual care benefits and survivors’ benefits) are all covered.
