A high-level five-year review of the Mauritius Strategy – called “Mauritius+5” – during which world leaders discussed ways and means of strengthening the resilience of those vulnerable countries, many of which had suffered a decline in real economic growth over the last decade, in marked contrast to many other developing nations.

Where no adequate pre-existing social protection mechanisms were in place, States’ investments in social protection were less able to respond to the effects of the economic downturn, although they still provided an important form of support to those most affected by the crises.

The speaker also noted the need to address the spillover of the international credit crunch into a global recession, and underscored the impact of the crisis on risk appetite and the move of investment back to dollar-based securities and treasuries.

To mitigate the potential effects of the downturn, the International Health Partnership (IHP+), the Global Fund, and the World Bank will, in the next biennium, focus their efforts on health systems strengthening, to scale up efficient and effective AIDS responses that affect achievement of Goals 4, 5 and 6.

A live-in worker who is dismissed can find herself from one moment to the next in the street with no income, legal residence status, family support network, return air ticket or right to seek another job.

It was particularly owing to Persian influence that the contrast between this world, in which evil, death, and sin prevail, and the future world, "which is altogether good" (Tamid lc), was so strongly emphasized, and the view prevailed that the transition from the one to the other could be brought about only through a great crisis, the signs of decay of a dying world and the birth-throes of a new one to be ushered into existence.

After a period of extraordinary increases in rubber prices, the global economic downturn has severely cut the price, contributing to sometimes violent confrontations on large plantations, where salary cuts and layoffs have been made.

They recognized the inalienable right to withdraw from the Treaty under article X, it being understood that State parties remained responsible for violations of the Treaty committed prior to their withdrawal and that any decision taken in relation to withdrawal should not lead to the revision of article X or to reopening the text of the Treaty.

It also responded to key challenges that emerged during the biennium, in particular the severe global economic downturn and uncertainty about the future.

With the waters now subsiding, Thailand and Cambodia need to recommit to complying with the ICJ decision as soon as possible.

To moderate exchange-rate volatility and appreciation, especially in situations of historically low effective rates of exchange, some countries deployed measures that included reserve accumulation (Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico and Peru) and sought to stem capital inflows (by means of taxes and restrictions in Brazil, which increased the financial transaction tax on foreign investment in fixed-income instruments — first to 4% and then, in October, to 6%) and increased outflows (Chile and Peru raised the overall limit on pension fund investments abroad).

No assessment of the potential environmental damage and the withdrawal of reindeer pastures was made, nor was any compensation for the possible losses considered.

The basket of factors includes the responsibility, working conditions and workload of judges vis-à-vis those of lawyers in private practice; the recruitment and retention in the Judiciary; unique features of the judicial service; retirement age and retirement benefits of JJOs; prohibition against return to private practice in Hong Kong; benefits and allowances enjoyed by JJOs; cost of living adjustment; general economic situation in Hong Kong; budgetary situation of the Government; overseas remuneration arrangements; private sector pay levels and trends; and public sector pay as a reference.

A window for accelerated phase-out and maintaining momentum might continue to be funded from various sources (e.g., funds not required through savings in approved projects from the current year’s business plans of the implementing and bilateral agencies; funds returned from balances and cancellations from projects approved; funds from annual tranches not approved during the business plan year; or savings from funding lower levels of eligible ODS consumption and/or production than the maximum levels resulted from the Model).

(B) If any cheques, warrants or orders for dividends or other moneys payable in respect of a share sent by the Company to the person entitled thereto are left uncashed on two consecutive occasions or on one occasion if such cheque, warrant or order is returned to the Company undelivered, the Company shall not be obliged to send any dividends or other moneys payable in respect of that share due to that person until he notifies the Company of an address to be used for the purpose.
