It studies various aspects of the realization and protection of human rights at both the national and the international levels; prepares country reports on Uzbekistan’s fulfilment of its international human rights obligations for submission to the United Nations treaty bodies; organizes seminars, lecture series and study trips; provides assistance in developing and implementing human rights study programmes; compiles and disseminates information on human rights; develops technical cooperation and information links with international human rights centres and organizations; coordinates locally theactivities of international agencies that render technical assistance in mattersof democratization, governance and human rights protection; and receives and reviews complaintsfrom the public about human rights violations.

Several suggestions concern the development of possible interdisciplinary programmes/actions: e.g., the development of an interdisciplinary programme on the library (community, university, school, governmental) and information sectors, to disseminate information for the benefit of the broadest possible audience, contribute to education and lifelong learning andserve a major cultural role; one on languages, as inalienably linked to culture, integral to communication and to education (as beneficial to literacy in the first language).

Everyone who lives in a city has a stake in its future, and our programs are designed to bring people of all backgrounds and viewpoints together to address important issues related to urban life.

Other relevant provisions that can potentially benefit older persons, even if they do not specifically address their concerns, are to be found in the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, including: article 9 on accessibility; article 12 on equal recognition before the law, including in relation to appropriate measures to support the enjoyment and exercise of legal capacity; article 19 on living independently and being included in the community, including choice of place of residence on equal basis with others and access to a range of in-home, residential and other community support services; article 20 on personal mobility, including access to mobility aids, devices, assistive technologies and specialist staff; and article 26 on habilitation and rehabilitation to maintain maximum independence.
