UNESCO contributed to the observance of three international years: the International Year of Ecotourism, for which a presentation was made at the Ecotourism Summit in Quebec; the International Year of Mountains, for which a CD on mountain ecosystems was produced; and the International Year of Freshwater, involving joint activities with the Ramsar Convention on World Wetlands Day.

(Uganda): I thank you, Mr. President, for organizing this debate to assess the implementation of the measures set out in the annex to the note by the President of the Security Council (S/2006/507) and recent Security Council practice.

When designed in a regional perspective, infrastructure development could contribute to regional integration and region-wide production.

Also requests the Administrator of UNDP to present a cumulative review of the strategic plan at the annual session 2013, instead of at the first regular session, as foreseen in decision 2011/9, in order to capture results and data for 2012, and endorses the decision for a combined cumulative review and annual report, with an improved reporting format, so that the cumulative review and annual report better report on development changes generated by UNDP contributions.

(c) Assesses the contributions and influence of the United Nations Forum on Forests process in addressing issues of priority for the scientific and technological community major group, focusing on the global, regional and subregional activities and programmes directly or indirectly contributing to the application of the principles of guiding the work of the Forum

UNESCO Venice Office contributed to the identification of the key activities to be carried out within the MDG-F joint programme “Sustainable Tourism and Rural Development”, in relation with the UNESCO designated sites included in the areas selected by the project component to be implemented by UNWTO (tourism related to World Heritage Sites and biosphere reserves).

The Commission took note of a number of national initiatives, including the introduction of ICT strategies and legislation, that had contributed to the region’s emergence as a global centre for ICT production and innovation.

Mr. Talka's contributions to public safety as envisioned by UL's founder William Henry Merrill are evidenced through his efforts in developing safety requirements utilizing state of the art technology, establishing safety requirements for the use of new technology, developing and implementing technical training programs, providing leadership in the development and expansion of product safety certification programs on a global basis, and coordinating and leading the most comprehensive Gage R&R initiative in UL's history.

Smallholders, who continued to be a significant component of Thai rural society, were vital to promoting household food security, environmental conservation and self-reliance, and should be empowered to enable them to contribute to promoting sustainable agricultural development and sustainable use of natural resources and to improving the quality of life of poor people.
