With regard to UNESCO’s contribution to, and participation in, UNDAF and UNCP across the three United Nations country teams in the Pacific, the Apia Cluster Office is a full member of the teams and provided substantive inputs to the development of UNDAF in the Pacific and of United Nations Country Programme in Papua New Guinea, both of which identified education as one of the key outcomes for joint programmes.

In a letter dated 8 February 2010 addressed to the President of the Security Council (S/2010/79), the Secretary-General announced the reappointment of two members of the Panel of Experts: Wynet Smith (Canada, natural resources expert and Coordinator) and Hervé Gonsolin (France, arms expert) and appointed Rowan Bosworth-Davies (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) as the new finance expert.

As a result of the work of SEPI, with contributions from civil society, in June 2010 the National Parliament passed the Law against Domestic Violence, which guarantees non-judicial protection to victims of domestic violence, such as counselling, temporary protection in shelters, medical treatment and social and legal assistance.

France believes that nuclear technologies have a vital contribution to make to the fulfilment of essential human needs and to sustainable development and should benefit all countries, in the fields of health, agriculture, industry, access to water and energy and protection of the environment.

In response to General Assembly resolution 58/208, in which the Assembly requested the Secretary-General to continue convening meetings to coordinate international migration activities, the Population Division organized the ninth coordination meeting on international migration, which was held in New York on 17 and 18 February 2011.15 The objectives of the meeting were (a) to examine the development of indicators that measure the contribution of international migration to countries of origin and destination; (b) to exchange information on recent initiatives to build capacities on international migration and development; and (c) to discuss the contribution of United Nations agencies, funds and programmes and other relevant organizations to intergovernmental processes, such as the Global Forum on Migration and Development and the informal thematic debate on international migration and development to be organized by the President of the General Assembly in May 2011.

Argentina hopes that the Security Council will this time shoulder its responsibilities and contribute to immediately ending hostilities and to establishing the conditions necessary to achieve peace, so as to benefit all the peoples living in the Middle East.

In conclusion, I reaffirm my delegation’s commitment to continue to support action by the Security Council and interested States with a view to attaining those objectives, while always giving precedence to the contribution that the United Nations should make, in the conviction that stability and security in the Middle East will come about as a result of dialogue and negotiation, not the use of force.
