Funding has been used to support projects aimed at introducing women’s rights and gender equality topics, as well as reducing inequality (competitions have included topics such as women’s entrepreneurship and raising employment among women, preventing violence against women and assisting of victims, measures to support reconciling work and family life, women’s rights and protecting them, overcoming gender barriers in choice of occupation and education, influencing decision-making on local level, participating in politics).

Five major themes of convergence between these three authors were identified during that first informal reflection process: (i) the place of pedagogy in their work, especially through education, experimentation and learning; (ii) nature, in the form of the desire for the search for a new covenant of solidarity between humanity and its environment; (iii) scientific and technological progress, enriched by dialogue with all forms of knowledge; (iv) human rights and democracy in response to colonialism, discrimination and political, economic, social and cultural exclusion; and, lastly (v) art and, in particular, poetry as a form of unique mediation between people and nature, and between individuals and their fellows.

Consequently, it is incumbent upon all of us to realize that the only solution must be a Syrian solution through a comprehensive and inclusive Syrian political process that satisfies the aspirations of the Syrian people in a national dialogue in which all participate under the umbrella of the homeland in order to establish a democratic, pluralistic country where all enjoy equality before the law, far from any political or ideological tendencies, a State where political and economic opportunities are available to each and everyone without discrimination, where there are democratic, transparent and free elections in which all compete, as is the case in other countries.

The concrete measures recommended by the Working Group include the adoption of specific legislation on non-discrimination; the development of a national campaign to promote multiculturalism and respect for the dignity of the Afro-Ecuadorian people; the adoption of measures to reduce the educational gap that exists between Afro-Ecuadorians and the wider population; the introduction of ethno-education for people of African descent; the strengthening of Afro-Ecuadorian civil society; measures to eliminate racism and discrimination in the media; further efforts to encourage participation of persons of African descent in public administration; the establishment of a centre for Afro-Ecuadorian studies; the further development of free legal aid services; the creation within the office of the Ombudsman of a sub-unit dedicated to issues related to people of African descent and the creation of special programmes to promote the education of women of African descent.

As part of an initiative within Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security, a research programme of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) analysing linkages between climate variables and food security indicators, climate data from weather stations and remote sensing imagery are being assessed for Nepal, in the search for recent changes in climate patterns and how they may impact food security in the country.

Its improved bend performance can guard against instances of higher loss causedby tight bends, thus helping to increase systems reliability and to maximize network uptime.

Security Council resolutions 1674 (2006) and 1894 (2009) on the protection of civilians state that ending impunity is essential if a society in conflict or recovering from conflict is to come to terms with past violations and prevent their recurrence, and that it is the responsibility of States to comply with their obligations to investigate and prosecute persons suspected of war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide or other serious violations of international humanitarian law.

Efforts at development of human capacities in least developed countries have been affected by high incidenceof poverty, mass unemployment, high population growth rates, poor health and nutrition outcomes, as evidenced by high child and maternal morbidity and mortality rates and the high burden of undernutrition, the prevalence of communicable diseases, including HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis and polio, and the growing burden of non-communicable diseases.

It also determines who is entitled to health protection and care and instructs public administrations to orientate the health measures they take so as to include active measures to prevent discrimination against any population group which for cultural, linguistic, religious or social reasons has particular difficulty in obtaining effective access to the health benefits provided by the system.

Conduct a gender analysis of a programme or project concept to reveal whether gender equality objectives are articulated in the initial idea, whether or not the planned activity will contribute to or challenge existing inequalities, and whether there are any gender issues that have not been addressed.

In that context, there was a need for instituting a new international economic order that would put stability and development at the top of the agenda and reduce the predominance of finance over the real sector.

These have been primarily aimed at informing and training the public and relevant target groups, preparing and distributing the relevant materials, raising the administrative capacity of state agencies to notice and identify discrimination of women and reduce gender inequality.

While welcoming the Secretary-General’s report (A/66/220) on development cooperation with middleincome countries, CARICOM States were disappointed that it did not refer to the fact that the small island developing States in that category were open, vulnerable and heavily indebted, with deep and intractable pockets of poverty, and required assistance from the international community, including debt relief, concessions and assistance specifically tailored to increase economic and developmental space, in order to cope with their situation.
