We provide a range of preventive, supportive and remedial programmes and services through Integrated Family Service Centres (IFSCs), Integrated Services Centres (ISCs), medical social services units in hospitals and clinics, school social work service, integrated children and youth service centres, as well as outreaching social work teams, in order to help young people, families and other vulnerable groups, including persons with disabilities, with suicidal risk to cope with adversities, and strengthen their support network.

For example, this may include experience in the following areas: the defence of those charged with serious and complex crimes at the domestic level, such as terrorism, homicide, manslaughter, trafficking and complex white-collar crimes; the defence of cases with international dimensions, such as those involving international judicial assistance, complex immigration issues or supranational crime; and the defence of those charged with war crimes, genocide and crimes against humanity.

Recognizing that all States Parties have a role to play, the Conference stresses that those States Parties seeking to build their capacity should identify their specific needs and requirements and seek partnerships with others, and that those States Parties, in a position to do so, should provide assistance and support.

Moreover, Codex does not cover all the pesticides used in our major exporting countries (e.g. Codex does not provide standards for bisultap which is a registered pesticide in the Mainland) and all food items of local interest (e.g. leafy vegetables are commonly consumed in Hong Kong, however, Codex has only established standards for a limited range of these food commodities).

The Administration also planned to cull all live poultry in Hong Kong’s retail markets if there were two confirmed H5N1 cases in retail markets.

(a) Pilot project on the prevention of elderly suicide: LWB and the Elderly Commission jointly launched the two-year Pilot Neighbourhood Active Ageing Project - Prevention of Elderly Suicide in April 2009 to disseminate the message of cherishing life among elders, identify and support elders with suicidal tendency, and step up suicide prevention work through neighbourhood support networks.

Some members expressed reservations about the proposal of culling all poultry when there were outbreaks of avian influenza in two local farms.

One of the deceased was found to have committed suicide, five to have died by natural causes, three by accident, the remaining one was concluded by the Coroner as an open verdict case.

There were different causes to these passenger-on-track cases, which include accidents in which passengers fall onto the track (for example, under the influence of alcohol or medicine, due to sickness, and so on); suicides and attempted suicides; and trespasses onto the track (for example, passengers trying to retrieve items fallen onto the track, crossing the track to the platform on the other side, and so on).

Any person who is convicted of manslaughter shall be liable to imprisonment for life and to pay such fine as the court may award.

The HKSAR Government is committed to working closely with different sectors including NGOs, medical and healthcare professionals, and academics by adopting a multi-pronged and cross-disciplinary approach to tackling the suicidal risk factors of persons with disabilities and promoting suicide prevention in the community.

The VOC can be emitted from various sources such as construction materials, furnishings, cosmetics, cleansing agents, pesticides, and tobacco smoke, but not all of the VOC are harmful to human health.

(c) Elderly suicide prevention programme of the HA: This is a territory-wide initiative for early detection of problems at the community level, and prompt assessment and treatment at fast track clinics.

Pesticide” means any substance intended for preventing, destroying, attracting, repelling, or controlling any pest including unwanted species of plants or animals during the production, storage, transport, distribution and processing of food, agricultural commodities, or animal feeds or which may be administered to animals for the control of ectoparasites.

The organic farms do not use genetically modified plants or animals, prohibit the use of pesticides and optimise cow health by using a holistic approach to their grazing, breeding, rearing and nutrition without hormones or the routine use of antibiotics.

Since 2002, dedicated services have been provided through subventing the Samaritan Befrienders Hong Kong, an NGO operating a Suicide Crisis Intervention Centre, to provide outreaching, immediate intervention and intensive counselling services for persons in need.

Therefore, during the design of microwave oven and microwave cooking instructions, the heating process and characteristics of microwave cooking have to be taken into account to ensure that adequate temperatures are reached to kill microorganisms1 .
