The main courses of action are advocacy and lobbying for gender-responsive law and policymaking, including gender policy consensus-building activities among diverse women’s groups, public hearings, conferences, workshops, meetings and press conferences and releases; local, national and international campaigns, signature collection and cultural events; organization of gender training events, and capacity-building programmes for women’s movement activists; and support for local grass-roots women’s organizations.

It is worth mentioning that the year 2012 provides another opportunity to highlight the efforts deployed by UNESCO and Member States to preserve, promote and foster access to an evergrowing part of the world’s documentary heritage – the international conference on digital heritage foreseen in the agenda of the Communication and Information Sector for next autumn.

On 3 March, the Department organized a press conference on the Beijing review following the official observance of International Women’s Day at United Nations Headquarters, and arranged several media interviews with United Nations officials and Commission members.

It shall inform the public of its findings by means of a press conference after debriefing the Government.

Other activities for the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People included an exhibition in Brazzaville, a press conference with representatives from the United Nations and indigenous peoples’ organizations in Bogotá, and the development of a special web page by the United Nations Information Centre in Lima (http://www.uniclima.org.pe/index1.htm).

The Internet, as well as distribution directly to media at Headquarters and to other regions through the United Nations information centres (UNICs), is crucial to the Department’s continued ability to provide fast, accurate, balanced and comprehensive coverage of all open intergovernmental meetings and press conferences at Headquarters and at other locations.

At COP 15, the Director-General presented the UNESCO climate initiative at an international press conference and participated in a high-level panel discussion on the “United Nations system delivering as one on climate change” together with the United Nations Secretary-General and other Executive Heads of United Nations system organizations.

Dahir is an influential Habr Gidir Ayr clan political figure, and acted as a spokesman at a press conference marking the merger between Hisb’ul Islam and Al-Shabaab on 27 December 2010 at Afgoye.247 Two sources who know Dahir have said he is being currently used by Al-Shabaab to rally support from his Ayr clansmen.248 319.
