The money from the Award has been used to achieve various objectives, including furnishing a handiwork classroom, purchasing furniture for dormitories, providing skills teaching and most ambitious of all, funding the creation of a second centre for girls in Ongole.

Among the owners, how many of them completed the slope repairworks and rendered the slopes structurally safe meeting the relevant standards before the repair orders expired?

The  Government  should  also  designate  a  holistic  rehabilitation  programme  to  ensure  all  buildings  would  be  subject  to  regular  inspections.  It  would  also  be  of  utmost  importance  to  ensure  all  residential  buildings  would  be  rehabilitated  without  excuse  of  lack  of  financial  or  managerial  abilities,  and  have  had  a  certain  basic  of  management  and  maintenance  after  the  rehabilitation  programme.

The new initiatives include large-scale operations for removal of unauthorised building works, inspection and repair of dilapidated buildings, public education and publicity programmes, the proposed Mandatory Building Inspection Scheme/ Mandatory Window Inspection Scheme, the proposed signboard control system, etc. to enhance building safety and to strengthen the support services of the Department.

The independent expert is concerned that humanitarian actors are not sufficiently present on the spot to facilitate the return of thousands of internally displaced persons and refugees to these same areas and to assist and protect the most vulnerable, contribute to the renovation of thousands of destroyed houses and restore basic social services.
