At its resumed sixty-fourth session, the General Assembly reaffirmed the commitment by all States to establish a monitoring mechanism to follow up on all commitments related to the development of Africa, as contained in the political declaration on Africa’s development needs; reaffirmed its full support for the implementation of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development, and its commitment to the full implementation of the political declaration on Africa’s development needs; and requested the Secretary-General to submit a comprehensive report on the implementation of the resolution to the Assembly at its sixty-fifth session on the basis of inputs from Governments, organizations of the United Nations system and other stakeholders in the New Partnership (resolution 64/258).

In this regard, the analysing group noted that both could benefit if Chile provided updates relative to these timelines at meetings of the Standing Committees, Meetings of the States Parties, and Review Conferences.

In order to further promote the projects, while expanding the content, priority will be given to cooperation with existing partners, and specialized agencies of the United Nations implementing sister programs, in the planning and implementation of joint training and awareness-raising activities.

The Executive Committee is also hopeful that, in the next phase, Bahrain will continue with the implementation of its Country Programme and activities related to projects approved for Bahrain with outstandingsuccess in achieving ODS phase-out schedule as per the Montreal Protocol.

Through targeted engagement with eight operations – Chad, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Georgia, Kenya, Malaysia and the Syrian Arab Republic – the Office is actively tracking the implementation of recent changes at each stage of the operations management cycle, in order to identify opportunities for improvement.

It also noted with appreciation the measures taken by Costa Rica to reduce poverty, improve the status of disadvantaged groups, promote the status of women and gender equality, as well as the implementation of the right to education of all to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, and the extension of that right to cover the children of irregular migrants.

Therefore, the following recommendations are addressed not only to States parties but also to other relevant actors including non-State actors who may have de facto control over areas in which the inalienable rights of the child, including his/her right to education, must be respected, protected and fulfilled.

The Pact’s four strategic areas call for activities such as (a) construction and renovation of and provision of new equipment for women’s services referral centres, shelters, specialized women’s police stations, special domestic and family violence against women courts and women’s ombudsmen’s offices; (b) training of professionals in the network of services for women in situations of violence; (c) support for initiatives aimed at preventing violence against women and strengthening respect for the human rights of women prisoners; (d) expansion and consolidation of the women’s services hotline, Llame 180; (e) promotion and implementation of campaigns for preventing and combating violence against women; (f) implementation of the National Trafficking in Persons Policy; and (g) teacher training in non-discriminatory content.

Rather than reciprocate the efforts and gestures made for peace — from the explicit commitment to peace and the two-State solution based on the pre-1967 borders made by the Palestinian leadership, beginning with the Palestinian Declaration of Independence over 20 years ago; to the Madrid, Oslo, Taba, Sharm el-Sheikh and Annapolis commitments; the Arab Peace Initiative over eight years ago; the road map to Mideast peace and the Quartet Statement; the diplomatic efforts of the United States of America and all other concerned nations — Israel continues to pay only lip-service to the pursuit of peace, while its actions are actually destroying any chance for the realization of peace.

The focus in the biennium will be on ensuring that the design and implementation of the system effectively meets the needs of human resource management as well as senior management to support decision-making, consistent policy application and reporting to Member States.

Recommendations proposed included prioritizing least developed countriesin allocations of official development assistance; implementing new and innovative sources of financing; exploring and, where possible, experimenting with new types of financial and, especially, non-financial collaboration; leveraging resources through subsidies for international private sector engagement, especially foreign direct investment, in areas of least developed country priority; strengthening least developed country capacities for commercial contracting through greater transparency in agreements and by fostering governmental, especially parliamentary, review; increasing the participation of least developed countries in governance of the aid architecture.

We will continue to implement the strategies of product differentiation and cost leadership, increase logistical efficiency and enhance product quality, sustaining rapid business growth by reinforcing our presence in the domestic market while swiftly expanding overseas.

Following the meeting the members of the Council issued a statement to the press in which the Council, inter alia, reiterated that the Gulf Cooperation Council initiative and implementation mechanism must be fulfilled in a transparent and timely manner, and in a spirit of inclusion and reconciliation; urged all the parties in Yemen to reject violence, refrain from provocations, and cooperate with the Military Affairs Committee to fully implement the implementation mechanism and resolution 2014 (2011); and reiterated that all those responsible for human rights violations and abuses, including acts of violence, must be held accountable.

The Meeting recalled the provisions of ESCAP resolution 66/10, whereby the Commission had called upon members and associate members, inter alia, “to ground universal access in human rights and undertake measures to address stigma and discrimination, as well as policy and legal barriers to effective HIV response, in particular with regard to key affected populations” and had requested the Executive Secretary to convene a highlevel intergovernmental meeting “to assess progress against commitments in the Political Declaration on HIV/AIDS and the Millennium Development Goals and efforts to ensure universal access, and identify areas for regional cooperation, in particular in such areas as policy and legal barriers to universal access and promoting dialogue between health and other sectors, including justice, law and order and drug control”.

Within the framework of the project, a survey is carried out to find out the awareness of employers about gender equality, attitudes to the issue and implementation of gender equality legislation in the private sector; to receive an overview of the guidelines, methods and measures used in the private sector of the EU member states to implement the principle of equal treatment of women and men and to promote gender equality; to draw up guidelines for the private sector workers in Estonia, inter alia for drafting the basic principles of wage calculation and criteria of work evaluation to eliminate the wage gap between women and men; to increase the private sector awareness of the relevant legislation and to improve their knowledge and skills in using the means and methods for promoting gender equality, and to create a network of private sector employers and interest groups to mediate information, experience and best practices on promoting gender equality.
