I have the honour to transmit herewith a copy of a communication from Mr. Evo Morales Ayma, President of the Plurinational State of Bolivia (see annex), in which he calls upon all peoples and social movements of the world that advocate for Mother Earth and invites scientists, academics, legal experts and governments to attend the Peoples’ World Conference on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth, to be held from 20 to 22 April 2010 in the city of Cochabamba, Bolivia.

The President of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, His Excellency Mr. Juan Evo Morales Ayma, reiterating his strong solidarity with the Cuban people and Government in this righteous struggle at the thirty-ninth session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States, held in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on 2 and 3 June 2009, negotiated the effective revocation of the decision taken in 1962 to suspend Cuba from the inter-American system.

The ship is commanded by the cat-like, sharp-witted Captain Amelia (Emma Thompson) along with her stony-skinned and disciplined First Mate, Mr. Arrow (Roscoe Lee Browne).

Mr. Jeremić has lectured at major universities around the world, and participated in debates and discussions convened by think tanks and organizations focusing on global issues, including the Economist magazine, World Economic Forum, Chatham House, the Bled Strategic Forum, the Aspen Institute and the MEDays Forum of the Amadeus Institute.

The President of Bolivia, Juan Evo Morales Ayma, in his speech at the Copenhagen Summit and in a meeting with the indigenous peoples’ caucus, stated that climate change was a result of capitalism.

The President of Bolivia, His Excellency Evo Morales Ayma, visited UNESCO Headquarters on 17 February 2009 to present the results obtained by the Republic of Bolivia in regard to the eradication of illiteracy.

I have the honour to transmit herewith the conclusions adopted at the first Peoples’ World Conference on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth, held from 20 to 22 April 2010 in Cochabamba and convened by President Evo Morales Ayma of the Plurinational State of Bolivia (see annexes I and II).

During the 2009/10 fiscal period, the Mission maintained four regional centres (Baucau, Suai, Maliana and Oecussi) and eight subdistrict police offices, as well as support operations in the 13 police headquarters in the districts.

On that day, Bolivian President Evo Morales Ayma, for whose leadership on this issue we are extremely grateful, said that 60 years after the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Mother Earth is now, finally, having her rights recognized (see A/63/PV.80).

Out of respect for that tradition, which is an expression of our cultural identity, the President of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Mr. Evo Morales Ayma, in March 2009 submitted a proposal to amend article 49 of the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs of 1961, with respect to coca leaf chewing.

The Bolivian Government upholds international standards such as the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, which was adopted in September 2007 at the sixty-second session of the United Nations General Assembly and subsequently approved by the Bolivian legislature and promulgated by President Evo Morales Ayma under Law No. 3760.

In Pakistan, Lahore Fort and Shamlaman Gardens received focused assistance with support from the Norwegian Government.

It is noteworthy that programmes implemented by the Office in the area education focused on the following strategic areas of support, all directly responding to strategies and results contained in Kenya Education Sector Support Programme (KESSP), the education sector’s plan to materialize Vision 2030: strengthening the planning, monitoring and evaluation of the education system through EMIS; enhancing the education sector responses to HIV and AIDS; improving the quality of education for peace programme; and strengthening literacy development through advocacy and technical support to strategic planning.

Together with the Communication and information Sector and other partners, the Culture Sector should also be encouraged to explore the feasibility of deploying movable libraries in remote and rural areas, so as to induce a culture of book use and reading.
