The country has considerable oil and mineral wealth and vast areas of arable land.

(6) To acquire, develop, manage, license, hire, let, sell, exchange and otherwise howsoever turn to account any land and/or building and, in particular, by laying out and preparing the same for building purposes, constructing, altering, demolishing, pulling down, decorating, administering, maintaining, furnishing, fitting up, and improving buildings of all kinds, and by planting, paving, draining, farming, cultivating, letting on building lease or building agreement or for sale, and by advancing money to and entering into contracts and arrangement of all kinds with builders, tenants and others in connection with any of the foregoing.

New investments are required in regional and national agricultural and fishery research and rural infrastructure, extension of better farming and fishing practices and innovative and sustainable technologies, as well as marketing advice, structured and effective finance and greater tenure security, including access to and control over land by female farmers irrespective of their marital status.

Thousands of smallholder farmers will be engaged to create a food and ethanol cooking fuel production facility, implement sustainable farming practices and lay the groundwork for economically and ecologically sustainable communities.

Implement a genuine, people-led land and agrarian, pasture land, and fisheries reforms.

(i) To develop and turn to account any land acquired by the Company or in which the Company is interested, and in particular by laying out and preparing the same for building purposes, constructing, altering, pulling down, decorating, maintaining, furnishing, fitting up, and improving buildings, and by planting, paving, draining, farming, cultivating, letting on building lease or building agreement, and by advancing money to and entering into contracts and arrangements of all kinds with builders, tenants and others.

The rest of the agricultural land is cultivated by big agricultural companies, which are owned by a small number of owners who consolidate lands by means of lease contracts with small owners or through acquisition.

To increase the ability of women to contribute significantly to improved food security, FTF will strive to: (a) ensure that women producers have equal access to assets, inputs and technology; (b) develop agricultural interventions and practices that target both men and women; (c) prioritize labour-saving technologies that benefit women and girls in the home and allow girls to stay in school, and that benefit women in the agricultural arena as producers, processors and marketers of agricultural goods; (d) expand the involvement and participation of women in decision-making at all levels and in all institutions so that they may help lead the formulation of policy, investments, programme design and implementation; (e) improve access to financial services for women in farming and agribusiness; and (f) help women move beyond production by opening up opportunities to engage in the investment-oriented and transformational sides of value chain production.

(g) “Other land” includes bare soil, rock, ice and all land areas which do not fall under the forest land, cropland, grassland, wetlands or settlements categories.

There are strong arguments, however, in favour of land reform as contributing to the progressive realization of the human right to food, at least in contexts characterized by (a) a high degree of concentration of land ownership (such as a level of inequality higher than a Gini coefficient of 0.65), combined with (b) a significant level of rural poverty attributable to landlessness or the cultivation of excessively small plots of land by smallholders.

Nor the reforms promoted in the agricultural sector with regard to the privatisation of land, land ownership by peasants, abolishment of collective farms and formation of peasant farms have not improved the living standard and have not increased the level of employment in the rural areas.

Introductions of modern science and technology to smallholder farming should take into account these characteristics and be based on farmer knowledge networks, better infrastructure, and a system approach involving crop rotation and integrated crop and feedstock production.

Desertification has already consumed significant areas of land and will continue to reduce the amount of arable land as climate change worsens.

The principal business activity of AIFG is to engage in forestry, forestry land cultivation, forestry land ownership, forestry land management, forestry products, timber manufacturing, plywood manufacturing, fibreboard manufacturing, paper and paper-related products manufacturing, wood pulping and other forestry-related businesses.

Other unfavourable factors included: reduced resistance of grafted plants due to unusually high temperatures during the cropping season; and/or poor management operations such as the supply of organic matter in adequate amounts, the cropping density, and proper use of water.

Agricultural research that builds on seed diversity and sociocultural farming practices needs to be supported, and new and additional financial resources must be mobilized to support adaptation and strengthened resilience to climate change-related impacts.

2. Option 1: For the purpose of accounting greenhouse gas emissions and removals from land use, land-use change and forestry, a Party shall account for anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions by sources and removals by sinks on forest land, cropland, grassland, wetlands and settlements as well as greenhouse gas emissions by sources and removals by sinks resulting from land-use changes from the land-use categories forest land, cropland, grassland, wetlands or settlements to any other land-use category.

Existing agricultural technologies and techniques included cost-effective smallholder irrigation systems, production practices that emphasized rain-fed agriculture, water harvesting systems, high-quality genetic materials, value-added agricultural production, agro-technological awareness among young people, forestation, prevention of soil erosion and improvements to pastures.
