Pursuant to resolution 55/122 and in accordance with the recommendation of UNISPACE III, the Tenth United Nations/European Space Agency (ESA) Workshop on Basic Space Science: Exploring the Universe; Sky Surveys, Space Exploration and Space Technologies was organized by the United Nations, ESA and the Government of Mauritius at the University of Mauritius, in Reduit, Mauritius, from 25 to 29 June 2001.

On that occasion, COMEST stated its intention to direct its future activities towards the more general questions of the ethics of the environment, safe and peaceful methods for the use and exploration of space, and the promotion of fundamental human rights and freedoms through a prudent and sustainable use of natural resources.

It provided experts, professionals, representatives of non-governmental organizations, governmental and regulatory agencies from all regions with an opportunity to identify freedom of expression issues on a global basis such as new possibilities, challenges and obstacles of the exercise of freedom of expression in cyberspace, whether direct (censorship) or indirect (lack of access to ICTs or information); and the regulation of its contents.

Detectors' specially designed or modified to protect rocket systems and unmanned aerial vehicles against nuclear effects (e.g. Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP), X-rays, combined blast and thermal effects), and usable for the systems specified in 1.

The Working Group also heard a statement by the observer for the Secure World Foundation (SWF) on a workshop organized jointly by the Association of Space Explorers and SWF, with support from the Regional Centre for Space Science and Technology Education for Latin America and the Caribbean, on the establishment of a NEO information, analysis and warning network.

The five factors with the most potential to cause slippage in projected estimates for completion of judgements on appeal are the delays associated with or caused by: (a) the nature of multi-appellant cases; (b) the inordinate amount of pre-appeal motions; (c) the inordinate length of time for translation of trial judgements into Bosnian/Croatian/ Serbian, as well as for translation of written submissions into one of the Tribunal’s working languages and Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, especially in cases of selfrepresented appellants; (d) amendments to grounds of appeal, especially following translation of the trial judgement (mainly for represented appellants); and (e) understaffing and/or lack of experience in appeals support.

In accordance with Article 11, paragraph 4, of the Convention and rule 1, paragraph 4, of the rules of procedure, the following other organizations attended the Meeting as observers: APOPO, Centre for International Stabilization and Recovery (CISR), Cleared Ground Demining, the HALO Trust, and International Trust Fund for Demining and Mine Victims Assistance (ITF).

The incumbents of the 20 new posts, who would be carefully screened and trained to provide the required level of security services, would be responsible for the provision of security coverage at entry points throughout Mission premises in Sukhumi; screening of all personnel, packages and vehicles entering the premises through visual inspections, metal detectors and X-ray equipment; identification and temporary custody of weapons prior to entry into the premises; conduct of patrols throughout Mission headquarters; control of vehicular traffic in Mission headquarters; and reporting of all security, fire and safety violations to the security control centre.
