In order to improve learning effectiveness and cost efficiency, a blended approach between classroom and elearning methodologies was piloted.

Working on the social dimensions of global environmental change, the SHS Global Environmental Change Team will work in four complementary directions: (a) To identify the ethical and social challenges arising from global environmental change, including particularly climate change, biodiversity loss and freshwater scarcity – that would produce among other effects population displacements and governance threats - by supporting the production of social and human science knowledge within an intra-disciplinary science framework; (b) to reflect on ethical principles that can make sense of environmental challenges and offer a normative basis to address them; (c) to support ethically and scientifically grounded national policies in selected countries to adapt to global environmental change and build resilience, with particular reference to assessment methodologies and policy design; and (d) to understand holistically how ethics of development can advance UNESCO’s ethics mandate.

The Secretary-General states that the Departments of Peacekeeping Operations and Field Support would continue to define the training objectives and learning outcomes, while the Staff College and UNITAR leverage their comparative advantages in instructional design and delivery methodologies (see A/65/644, para. 26).

This focus on teachers is backed by recent research showing that good teachers are a more important determinant for students’ learning achievements than the quality of school premises.

He further advised that the study would be completed in 12 months’ time and new developments along the sea water front would receive priority attention in the consultancy study.

The Framework Plan for the 1st cycle was adopted, in accordance therewith the educational plans of the higher education institutions for all qualifications contain the obligatory Formation Component, which at the level of skills formation and general competences’ disciplines provide for a course in a foreign language of international circulation with an amount of 10 credits (around 300 hours) to study a foreign language with application in the field of professional bias.

The expected outcomes of the study are the formulation of recommendations on the development of a national strategy to prevent dropping out from school, on the one hand, and, on the other, greater effectiveness in implementing new curricula in order to raise the levels of learning achievements.

Special mention should be made of the close collaboration between UNESCO and UNICEF on capacity-building for civil society communicators and the support given to the Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC) on the reform of the education and information management systems and monitoring learning achievements.

In that regard, it noted that an increasing number of countries were utilizing public-private partnerships in order to finance transport infrastructure development projects, including along sections of the Asian Highway and Trans-Asian Railway networks.

In the future, the Group will continue to enhance technology co-operation with upstream chips manufactures through EVOC Central Research Institute, to provide the most advanced technical achievement to the Group and the PRC.

In this regard, the Program will facilitate the sharing of experiences, best practices, and methodologies at sub-regional and inter-regional levels in order to enable countries to learn from their respective experiences.
