A nation where care for the environment [...] [...]

United Nations history carries with it a host of values related to human dignity and rights, equity, and care for the environment.

This intervention includes coherent activities to protect our water resources and catchment areas, protect the oceans and aquatic resources, prevent air pollution, encourage soil conservation, introduce innovative new methods for agriculture, promote renewable energy resources, promote eco-friendly industries, build healthy towns and housing schemes, develop an environmentally friendly transport system, implement waste management systems, prepare the country for environmental change and promote cultural awareness and education.

This is achieved by recognizing the needs and taking care of the environment in which it operates and ensuring that it is culturally friendly and acceptable to the local community and the host Government.

These initiatives such as People 4 Earth and Wal-Mart’s Live Better Index bring together Governments, the private sector and non-governmental organizations to reduce the confusion faced by consumers in exercising sustainable consumption choices.

Evaluation findings have been used to: sharpen the vision of UNICEF and partners regarding what constitutes a child-friendly school; enable UNICEF to advocate for expansion of strategic partnerships to improve the quality of education and scaling-up of the ISP through the Fast Track Initiative; and enable establishment of a communitybased coalition to harmonize education interventions, thereby increasing the likelihood that gains from education interventions will be sustainable.

Such obligations include the care, preservation and restoration of historical sites, monuments, works of art and literary works, among others.52 (b) Respect and protect cultural heritage of all groups and communities, in particular the most disadvantaged and marginalized individuals and groups, in economic development and environmental policies and programmes

An important concept put forward by the EPA 2002 is Environmental Stewardship, which puts a duty on each and every citizen of Mauritius to preserve and enhance the quality of life by caring responsibly for the natural environment.

The Constitution provides for the responsibility of society as a whole for caring for families and children, and it specifies that responsibility for children and their education is the natural right and civil duty of parents and that the State must ensure the support, instruction and education of orphans and children whose parents have lost custody.

Under Secretary Hormats also met with NGO representatives in a roundtable discussion organized by the U.S. Embassy that included major international and local Chinese NGOs focused on fighting wildlife trafficking, including Conservation International, Friends of Nature, International Fund for Animal Welfare, International Union for the Conservation of Nature, TRAFFIC, The Nature Conservancy, Wildlife Conservation Society, World Wildlife Fund for Nature, FREELAND, and WildAid.
