Fruits dark brown when mature, 1.2-2.4 × 1.2-2.9(-3) mm, ± as wide as high; mericarps divergent, such that from above fruit appears crosslike; testa cells in rings; fibrils only in wing cells.

Fruit ribbed, 3-3.5 mm, glabrous or nearly so, deeply 2-cleft into mericarps each divided into 2 1-seeded pyrenes; mericarps longitudinally ribbed.

Fruit elliptic, elliptic-oblong, or ovate, 2-4(-4.5) × 1.5-2.5 mm, base and apex obtuse; valves glabrous or densely papillate with trichomes to 0.3 mm, these longer at the middle than along margin.

Capsule long terete, 45-70 X 2.5-3 cm, 8-12-striate; valves thin leathery, pale black-brown; septum compressed, 8-10 mm thick, smooth.

Capsule ovoid, not angular, 4--6 × 3--4.5 mm, not or only slightly constricted distally when dehisced, apex of valves abruptly narrowed; style 1--2 mm; stigma not or only slightly thickened.

Annuals, (5-)10-20(-35) cm tall, glabrous throughout except for papillate fruit valves.

Perianth white or pinkish white, 3.5--4.5 mm, glabrous but often densely papillose; tube cupular or campanulate; lobes recurved, lanceolate, 1.5--2 × 0.5--1 mm, 0.6--1 × tube length, apex of valves obtuse to acute.

Ovary usually sterile, occasionally only 1 mericarp develops in a few flowers.

Fruit broadly elliptic or obovate, 3-4.5(-5) × 2.5-3.5 mm, apex obtuse to rounded; valves not veined, inflated at middle or on 1 side, flattened at margin, densely covered with stellate trichomes; style 1.5-2 mm, slender, glabrous.

Fruit typically a 2-valved capsule, generally termed silique (siliqua) when length 3 × or more than width, or silicle (silicula) when length less than 3 × width, dehiscent or indehiscent, sometimes schizocarpic, nutletlike, lomentaceous, or samaroid, segmented or not, terete, angled, or flattened parallel to septum (latiseptate) or at a right angle to septum (angustiseptate); valves 2(or 3-6); replum (persistent placenta) rounded, rarely flattened or winged; septum complete, perforated, reduced to a rim, or lacking; style 1, distinct, obsolete, or absent; stigma capitate or conical, entire or 2-lobed, sometimes lobes decurrent and free or connate.

Fruit lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, (3-)4.5-6.5(-8) cm × 6-11 mm; valves glabrous or pilose at least along margin, obscurely reticulate veined; septum complete; style obsolete; stigma entire or slightly lobed.

Fruit narrowly conical, strongly torulose, angustiseptate at least basally, (4-)7-10(-12) mm, base cordate or truncate and (1.8-)2-2.5(-3) mm wide, apex acuminate; valves membranous, sparsely puberulent with papillae to 0.3 mm, rarely subglabrous, distinctly veined; replum widely expanded at base, narrowly flattened elsewhere; septum complete or rarely perforate and reduced to a rim, membranous; style slender, (0.5-)0.7-1.2(-1.5) mm.

Oreocomopsis resembles Oreocome Edgeworth, but differs in having bracts pinnate (rarely entire); bracteoles linear or filiform, 2–3 × umbellules; mericarp commissure narrowed; and mesocarp parenchyma not lignified.

Fruit 0.9-1.4 × 0.8-1.1 mm, widest above middle; mericarps parallel; mature fruit black, mericarps sharply reticulate, reticulations appearing ± clearly in vertical rows; wing (0-)0.05-0.16 mm wide, mainly toward apex.
