At the 4th meeting, on 12 April, the keynote speaker, Amy Tsui, Professor at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and Director of the Bill and Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health, addressed the Commission on the theme “Improving family planning services to achieve universal reproductive health” and responded to questions raised by the representatives of Indonesia, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Kenya, Malaysia, the United States of America and the Netherlands and by the observers for Norway, Denmark and the Gambia.

Besides Father Paulinus, already mentioned, are the Abbé Roussel, who was chosen to assist in completing the translation of the voluminous "Bhagavata Purana", begun by Burnouf, and who has besides published interesting studies on Hinduism; the Abbé Dubois, who published a masterly exposition of Modern Hinduism under the title "Hindu Manners, Customs and Ceremonies" (Oxford, 1897); and Father J. Dahlmann, SJ Finally, it is but fair to note that considerable excellent work is being done by native Hindu scholars in translating and interpreting sacred Hindu texts.

The group, known as the Health Eight, which comprises WHO, UNFPA, UNICEF, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, the World Bank, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, the GAVI Alliance and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, meets every six months to strengthen collaboration and escalate global efforts to reach the health-related Millennium Development Goals.

Tullamore is a lively country town with stacks of restaurants, pubs, shops and character, while the small Georgian town of Birr has a wonderful Georgian atmosphere and contains the wonderful Birr Castle Demense and Historic Science Centre.

Regarding financing, as noted, only 18 per cent of the pledges have been delivered thus far, and I know that the co-chairs of the Interim Commission — former President Bill Clinton and Prime Minister Bellerive — have called on our international partners to increase that percentage so that the projects that have been approved can be implemented.

During the high-level event, Heads of State, Bill Gates and other key partners will discuss progress in eradicating polio to date, urgent priorities for the final push towards the total eradication of polio, commitments of polio-affected countries and donors towards these efforts and the wider benefits that polio eradication has on child health.

Lastly, my delegation renews its support for the action of the United Nations Special Envoy for Haiti, President Bill Clinton, and that of MINUSTAH and its head, Special Representative Edmond Mulet.

Ms. Ghosh discussed the activities of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which focused on working to help all people lead healthy and productive lives.

Lower Court instances also significantly contributed to the protection of human right, as the National Labor Court concluded that a decision of the Minister of Transport and Road Safety to allow transport operatives other than those on strike to provide transportation in the midst of a cessation of services in the city of Beer-Sheva, caused severe, direct, and intentional damage to the workers’ right of association and their right to strike (L.C 57/05 The New Histadrut v. Renewable energy technologies were also promoted, for example under an energy access project for poverty reduction in sub-Saharan Africa, on behalf of UNDP and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which encouraged the use of vegetable oil engines, instead of diesel engines, to power small agro-enterprises.
