(b) To enter into any guarantee, contract or indemnity or surety and in particular (without prejudice or secure, with or without consideration, whether by personal obligation or by mortgaging or charging all or any part of the undertaking, property and assets (present and future) and uncalled capital of the Company or both such methods or in any other manner, the performance of any obligations or commitments, of, and the repayment or payment of the principal amounts of and any premiums, interest, dividends and other moneys payable on or in respect of any securities or liabilities of, any person including(without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing) any company which is for the time being a subsidiary or a holding company of the Company or another subsidiary or a holding company of the Company or otherwise associated with the Company.

The Delegation also and noted that Brazilhad expressed a reservation in the Committee in general terms but had not made specific proposals at that time.

In the course of their investigations, members of the Monitoring Group travelled to Belgium, Canada, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, India, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Seychelles, Singapore, Somalia, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Uganda, Ukraine, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the United Republic of Tanzania and the United States of America.

The Meeting also noted that the Republic of the Congo had not taken advantage of the repeated offers of support from the Implementation Support Unit and other competent actors to assist it in clarifying the presence or the absence of anti-personnel mines in mined areas nor had it made national resources available to do the same.

The representative of Egypt then posed a number of questions to the organization, requesting that it not continue to evade responding to the Committee’s previous questions on the implications of the ideasand principles espoused by the organization on restricting the freedom of speech and the freedom of religion, as well as on the terminology it uses.

Its use in human medicine was later banned due to toxicological concerns and lack of efficacy.

Save as disclosed above, at no time during the six months ended 30 June 2002 was the Company or any of its subsidiaries a party to any arrangements to enable the directors or the chief executive of the Company to acquire benefits by means of acquisition of shares in, or debt securities (including debentures) of, the Company or any other body corporate and none of the directors, the chief executive, their spouses or children under the age of 18, had any rights to subscribe for securities of the Company, or had exercised any such rights during the period.

In its previous reports (A/64/660 and A/65/743), the Advisory Committee had requested, inter alia, that the Secretary-General provide a more detailed proposal for the reprofiling of the Global Service Centre in his next progress report, including its envisaged configuration at the end of the reprofiling process; the envisaged organizational structure and staffing of the Department of Field Support after the envisaged transfer of operational and transactional functions to the Global Service Centre; and clarification of the division of roles between Headquarters and the Global Service Centre and the Regional Service Centre.

Among the recommendations were that UNRWA must: impress upon donors that its core budget was not an administrative black hole but the key to running its educational programmes and thus should be seen as an investment in the future of the Palestine refugees; exploit all funding opportunities; enlarge its donor base for the core budget, to which only a small number currently contributed — a point to which hehad drawn attention in Cairo at a meeting of Arab League ministers whose countries gave welcome support to specific projects and emergency appeals but not to the core budget; expand its partnerships with non-State actors such as foundations and other institutions in the private sector; and continue to be cost-effective in conducting its programmes through better planning, implementation and oversight.

In the case of Argentina, someconcerns have arisen following the violent reaction of some sectors involved in the former military regime, but the overwhelming majority of the population has condemned this reaction.

(E) A certificate or report by the Auditors of the Company as to whether or not the Subscription Right Reserve is required to be established and maintained and if so the amount thereof so required to be established and maintained, as to the purposes for which the Subscription Right Reserve has been used, as to the extent to which it has been used to make good losses of the Company, as to the additional nominal amount of shares required to be allotted to exercising warrantholders credited as fully paid, and as to any other matter concerning the Subscription Right Reserve shall (in the absence of manifest error) be conclusive and binding upon the Company and all warrantholders and shareholders.

These problems are particularly serious for women as discrimination and care responsibilities result in lower wages and interrupted work histories, reducing their ability to contribute to and benefit from social insurance schemes.

When revalued assets are sold, the amounts included in other reserves are transferred to retained earnings.

It may be recalled that at the time of adoption of the decision by the Committee at its forty-eighth session, the Committee wasinformally advised by its Secretariat of the financial implications of its decision, but documentation to support the estimated costs, was not provided nor was there an official statement recorded, due purely to time constraints.

At the beginning of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea-United States bilateral talks held during the Clinton administration, the United States pledged “assurances against the threat and use of force, including nuclear weapons” (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea-United States Joint Statement, 11 June 1993).

(D) Subject, where applicable, to the rules of any relevant stock exchange, the Company, a subsidiary of the Company or holding company or a subsidiary of the Company’s holding company may make loans to persons (including, notwithstanding Section 96 of the Companies Act, any such bona fide employee or former employee who is or was also a director) employed in good faith by the Company with a view to enabling those persons to acquire fully or partly paid shares in the Company or its holding company to be held by them by way of beneficial ownership.

Still on the subject of the English version, though not in relation to a term used in the previous texts, since it does not appear in them, we feel that an unfortunate adjective is used in the heading of section II B.3: perhaps the phrase would be equally satisfactory with the deletion of the word “substantive”.

The Commission noted that new work on pomegranate had been initially proposed at the 14th Session of the Committee on Fresh Fruit and Vegetables (CCFFV) as a worldwide standard but that due to the late submission of the proposal, the Committee had not agreed on new work on this commodity and noted that the proposal could be brought to the CCNEA though significant production of pomegranate also existed in other regions.
