I would like to refer to three letters received from the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, one from the office of the caretaker Government of Nepal dated 31 December 2010 (see annex I) and two from the Chairman of the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), Mr. Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda”, dated 30 December 2010 (see annex II) and 4 January 2011, respectively (see annex III).

It was signed by representatives of the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction and UCPN-M, the Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator and the Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Nepal, and was witnessed by the Minister of Peace and Reconstruction, Rakam Chemjong, UCPN-M Chairman “Prachanda”, my Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict, and my Representative in Nepal.

During this session, the SHS and SC Commissions examined the resolution proposed in document 35 C/COM SC/DR.1 (submitted by: Austria, Belgium, Plurinational State of Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Congo, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Denmark, Djibouti, Dominican Republic, Finland, Iceland, Libya, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Madagascar, New Zealand, Netherlands, Norway, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Poland, Portugal, Samoa, Senegal, Slovenia, Sweden, Tuvalu, Uruguay; co-sponsored by: Barbados, Costa Rica, Germany, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lebanon, Malaysia, Monaco, Pakistan, Solomon Islands, Suriname, and Zambia), requesting the Director-General to strengthen UNESCO’s specialized capacity on climate change, building upon UNESCO’s unique interdisciplinary profile.

The recosting reflected in the report of the Secretary-General on the effect of changes in rates of exchange and inflation on the proposed budgets of both the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the International Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia for the biennium 2010–2011 (A/64/570) reflects the impact of the latest data on actual inflation, the outcome of salary surveys, the annual cost-of-living adjustments, the movement of post adjustment indices in 2009 and the effect of the evolution of operational rates of exchange in 2009.

By his letter dated 10 February 2012 (S/2012/85), the Secretary-General informed the Security Council that he had appointed to the Group of Experts the following individuals: Mr. Nelson Alusala of Kenya (arms); Mr. Ruben de Koning of the Netherlands (natural resources); Ms. Marie Plamadiala of the Republic of Moldova (customs and aviation); Mr. Steven Spittaels of Belgium (finance); and Mr. Steven Hege of the United States of America (armed groups and Coordinator).

The Committee decided that the working group on the role of non-governmental organizations (Dubravka Šimonović, Pramila Patten) with respect to the Convention and its Optional Protocol should present a revised draft based on comments received from members of the Committee for discussion at its forty-fifth session.

The active participation of non-governmental organizations in the activities of the Human Rights Council provided a direct outlet for popular voices and attested to the fact that people around the world expected the United Nations to protect their human rights and fundamental freedoms.

Historical landmarks of the movement include the arrival (1666) of Philipp Jakob Spener at a parish in Frankfurt, where he became the leader of Pietism in German Lutheranism, and the 1738 conversion experience of John Wesley, the leader of Methodism within the Church of England.

These policies include commitments made with respect to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs); the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action; the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, which Brazil ratified in 1984; the Inter-American Convention on the Prevention, Punishment, and Eradication of Violence against Women (Convention of Belém do Pará), which Brazil ratified in 1995; and the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children, supplementing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (Palermo Protocol), which Brazil ratified in 2004.

Project activities, carried out by local and international NGOs working in six countries – India (Ladakh), Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal (Humla), Pakistan (Chitral and the Kalash Valleys) and Tajikistan – were initiated in 2002, including training local tour guides, focusing on young people and women, establishing community-based home-stay accommodation, and training in the production and sale of high-quality craft items.

Project activities, carried out by local and international NGOs working in eight countries – Bhutan, India (Ladakh), Islamic Republic of Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal (Humla), Pakistan (Chitral and the Kalash Valleys) and Tajikistan – included training local tour guides, focusing on young people and women, establishing community-based home-stay accommodation, and training in the production and sale of high-quality craft items as part of a strategy for skills building and the development of sustainable employment.
