In addition to the common documents being considered under agenda item 3, the Commission had before it the report of the Committee on Trade and Investment on its second session (E/ESCAP/68/6), the report of the Governing Council of the Asian and Pacific Centre for Transfer of Technology on its seventh session (E/ESCAP/68/7) and the report of the Governing Council of the United Nations Asian and Pacific Centre for Agricultural Engineering and Machinery on its seventh session (E/ESCAP/68/8).

Ms. S. C. CHEUNG continued that, in connection with the plasticiser contamination incident, there were six Section 78B Orders under Section 78C(3) of the Public Health and Municipal Services Ordinance (PHMSO), Cap. 132, issued to recallfood from the market or to prohibit the tainted foods from importing and supplying within Hong Kong for which risk assessment showed that long-term consumption of such products may pose a health risk.

The Committee further notes from the information provided to it that this activity is financed from both the regular budget and extrabudgetary resources (the support account for peacekeeping operations and programme support income received asreimbursement for services provided by the central administration).

The representative of Japan recalled that a decision by the Sixteenth Meeting of the Parties had requested the Executive Committee to consider “(a) Funding additional demonstration projects to help demonstrate the value of replacement of CFC-based chillers, pursuant to relevant decisions of the Executive Committee; (b) Funding actions to increase awareness of users in countries operating under paragraph 1 of Article 5, of the impending phase-out and options that may be available for dealing with their chillers and to assist Governments and decision makers; (c) Requesting those countries preparing or implementing refrigerant management plans to consider developing measures for the effective use of the ozone-depleting substances recovered from the chillers to meet servicing needs in the sector.
