We are calling for the Istanbul consensus to constitute a clear rejection of the Washington consensus.

Specifically, the Framework would clarify the content of health statistics, reflect the nature of relationships between and within content areas, make it possible to identify an overall and coherent data collection system that would provide information for a range of topics so that piecemeal or silo statistical systems can be eliminated, and facilitate the identification of areas where innovative approaches to data collection are needed.

The reality proves that unless the long-held hostile concept of the United States towards the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is rooted out entirely, nothing can be resolved; rather, the confrontation and the risk of conflict will increase.

This is the case for treatment of the status of a foreigner, because paragraph 2 of article 10 of the Constitution states that the legal status of a foreigner is governed by the law in compliance with international laws and treaties, and for the treaty implementing article 11, which states that Italy rejects war as an offensive instrument against the freedom of other peoples and as a means of settlement of international disputes; it allows for, on an equal footing with other States, the necessary limitations of sovereignty for a legal system that can ensure peace and justice among nations, and promotes and supports the international organizations dedicated to this purpose.

(c) Make it possible to identify an overall and coherent data-collection system that would provide information for a range of topics so that piecemeal or silo statistical systems can be eliminated

To rectify those issues, Thailand is taking a multipronged strategy in transport by: (a) shifting people from private vehicles to public transport by improving public transport services, such as the development of a bus rapid transit system in Bangkok, expansion of the subway/SkyTrain system, and double-tracking of the inter-city railway; (b) tightening vehicle emission standards and improving vehicle inspection and maintenance; (c) promoting clean fuels such as compressed natural gas and biodiesel; (d) enhancing non-motorized transport (e.g., by providing bicycle lanes and parking); and (e) improving city planning with the provision of multimodal transport.

The United States has systematically abrogated essential elements of the Korean Armistice Agreement; it violated paragraph 60 of the Armistice Agreement stipulating that a political conference of a higher level be held to settle through negotiation the questions of the withdrawal of all foreign forces from Korea and the peaceful settlement of the Korean question.

We need to remove our mental “square brackets” at the Conference on Sustainable Development so that we can take advantage of the opportunities to move forward on the sustainable development of the entire planet for all people in an equitable way.

Fundamental to improving this is the need to move away from using a single process to fulfil different human resources management needs for recruitment, promotion and assignment.

Looking beyond stereotypes and clichéd perceptions, we have sought to highlight the characteristics and positive aspects of a country the size of a continent, and which is destined to become one of tomorrow’s major international players.

A large majority of Member States welcomed the new approach, whereby UNESCO abandons the concept of priority themes and groups in favour of the mainstreaming approach.

Through that 12-month re-extension, which we support, we reaffirm our trust in the activities of the Special Representative and our common desire to see an Afghanistan that is democratic, independent, stable and prosperous and has rejected violence and instability once and for all.

Such efforts should include consolidating democracy, spreading enlightened and moderate thinking and promoting an environment conducive to good governance, far from fanaticism, racism and arrogance.

In accordance with the commitments made within the framework of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the Millennium Development Goals, we call upon them to set aside laws that discriminate against women and increase their social, economic and political vulnerability.

The further development of the global field support strategy offers opportunities for the Organization to move from a mission-specific, “siloed” approach to field support, to an integrated business model that improves support to field-based missions through process re-engineering and economies of scale that target service improvements globally rather than through a mission-centric, stovepipe approach.

Against this backdrop, the world is witnessing more than ever clashes between cultures, attempts to take over and reinterpret modernity, as well as spectacular and violent rejections of it, due to the renunciation, redefinition, redeployment and abandonment it inevitably brings in its wake.

Equally significant, the Agency’s education programme has contributed to the preservation of the cultural identity of a displaced and dispersed people and also encouraged positive values, attitudes and ways of life that reject violence and promote tolerance and the search for dialogue.

The Union frequently cooperates with the Working Group on Girls of the NGO Committee on the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Association of the United States of America, the Committee on the Status of Women, the Commission on the Status of Women, the Subcommittee on Older Women, the seminars on unlearning intolerance, the Outreach Division of the Department of Public Information, the Human Rights Subcommittee and the Informal Jewish NGO Caucus.

We call on all sides in Haiti to focus on the peace and stability of the country and the well-being of the people; uphold unity, renounce violence, avoid provocations; resolve disputes through consultations within the framework of Haiti’s Constitution and laws; and ensure that the elections truly reflect the will of the Haitian people.

We seem to be finally discarding the traditional approach, by which peacekeeping and peacebuilding were sequential and unrelated stages in the path towards peace.

Beginning with document 31 C/4, a new approach has been introduced, abandoning the concept of priority themes and groups and replacing it with the mainstreaming approach.

The OSCE human dimension requires rethinking, above all in rejecting selectivity on country and thematic issues and to give due prominence to important themes in human rights issues.

As preparations for the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development intensified, CARICOM called on all Member States to reject business as usual and incremental improvements and prepare to confront the complex challenges of global sustainability collectively and with a sense of urgency and heightened ambition.
