In 2006 elections ODS received absolute majority of 41 seats in the Senate, followed by ČSSD with 12 senators and KDU-ČSL with 11 senators.

After its establishment in 1993, the Czech Republic succeeded to the 1960 Agreement between the Government of the Czechoslovak Republic and the Austrian Federal Government on the Exploitation of Shared Natural Gas and Oil Deposits.

The question entitled “Coordination of the activities of the United Nations and the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe” was included in the agenda of the forty-seventh session of the General Assembly, in 1992, at the request of Czechoslovakia (A/47/192).

An Agreement between the Government of theCzechoslovak Republic and the Austrian Federal Government on the Exploitation of Shared Natural Gas and Oil Deposits, negotiated in 1960, specified the international legal and technical parameters for the exploitation of deposits of these raw materials.

In 2002 elections, The Czech Social-Democratic Party (ČSSD) received the highest amount of seats (70), followed by The Civic Democratic Party (ODS) with 58 mandates, the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia (KSČM) with 41 seats and the last was the coalition of the Christian and Democratic Union –TheCzechoslovak People’s Party and The Freedom Union – The Democratic Union (KDU-ČSL US-DEU) with 31 mandates.

After the disintegration of Czechoslovakia, a Czech-Austrian Mixed Commission was set up to continue to fulfil the tasks arising from the 1960 Agreement between the Government of the Czechoslovak Republic and the Austrian Federal Government on the Exploitation of Shared Natural Gas and Oil Deposits.

A specific feature of the 1960 Agreement between the Government of the Czechoslovak Republic and the Austrian Federal Government on the Exploitation of Shared Natural Gas and Oil Deposits was that the raw material was used only by one contracting party (Austria) with regard to the technically rational system of mining.

The question had already been raised during the discussion of the draft articles adopted on first reading by the members of the International Law Commission and by the Czechoslovak and Romanian delegations in the Sixth Committee (Sir Humphrey Waldock, fourth report (A/CN.4/177), footnote 308 above, pp. 48–49).

Austria has concluded only one agreement on the exploration of transboundary oil and gas resources: the Agreement between the Austrian Federal Government and the Government ofCzechoslovakia onthe exploitation of the common oil and gas deposits (23 January 1960), now being in force between Austria and the Czech Republic, and Austria and the Slovak Republic.4 19.

Following the “Prague coup” by the Communist Party in February 1948 and establishment of a Communist government in Czechoslovakiaallegedly with Soviet backing, Chile requested the Security Council to consider the events that might have violated the political independenceof Czechoslovakia.
