Many of these activities were prepared and implemented in cooperation with the other UNESCO programmes in the natural sciences, culture, and world heritage.

By 171 EX/Decision 58, the Executive Board decided to recommend that the General Conference, at its 33rd session, grant approval for UNESCO to be the main partner of the Universal Forum of Cultures – Monterrey 2007, throughout the various phases of the project and invited the Director-General to draw up, in cooperation with the Forum’s organizers, a draft framework agreement on the modalities of the partnership, together with a plan of action, for submission to the Executive Board at its 172nd session, and to report to it at that time on the implementation of the above-mentioned decision.

Ethics of science and technology, with emphasis on bioethics: UNESCO will continue to develop and implement national and international policy frameworks for the ethical problems arising from the advances in science and technology, consolidating in the process its role as a driving force in the development of global standards and their implementation through policy, legislation, research and professional activities.

In addition, the ISU and the UNDP have collaborated in developing a guide to support UN personnel in mine-affected countries in assisting relevant States Parties with their reporting obligations.

In order to ensure the efficient discharge of administrative tasks, a proposal is made to reclassify the current P-3 post of Administrative Officer (Support/Building Management) as a P-4 post carrying with it the additional task of dealing with personnel matters.

Both the Study Group and the Network, through the Tobacco Free Initiative, have been working with the Conference of the Parties working group on articles 9 and 10 on guidelines for the implementation of those articles (partial guidelines have been adopted by the Conference of the Parties).
