The projects systematically addressed conflict drivers and provided opportunities for young people to develop and acquire social skills towards maintaining peace and security; diminished violence in former “hot spots”, particularly in remote Grand Gedeh and Nimba counties; increased the number of ex-combatants taking up honest livings; contributed to a reported reduction in illicit mining; increased knowledge and awareness among the public about the rule of law and legal rights; supported the settlement of numerous land cases in courts, reducing the rate of land-related violence; and supported the arrests of suspected criminals.

Yemen recalled the recent Israeli attack against the Gaza strip and indicated that Israel has ignored recommendations since 1948 and so it is not surprising that it will ignore the largest number of UPR recommendations, specially those related to putting an end to the occupation in all occupied Palestinian and Arab territories and to recognizing the right of Palestinian people to self-determination, to an independent sovereign state with Jerusalem as a capital, and to the right of return of Palestinian refugees to their homeland and their right to compensation and restitution of their properties.

Whereas it has been internationally recognized, including by the principal organs of the United Nations, that Armenia unleashed the war, attacked Azerbaijan and occupied its territories, including the Daghlyq Garabagh (Nagorno Karabakh) region, carried out ethnic cleansing on a massive scale, perpetrated other heinous crimes in the course of the war and established the ethnically constructed subordinate separatist entity on the captured Azerbaijani territory, it is curious that Armenian propaganda continues to qualify the aggression against Azerbaijan as “a peaceful and constitutional demand of the Nagorno Karabakh people to exercise its right to self-determination”.

The Hand in Hand Trust currently runs five purpose-built nurseries, three in Lima and two in a more isolated area of the Andes which feed, care for and provide early education for up to 250 pre-school children at any one time.

The project, which is aimed at promoting eco-tourism which is conducive to the development of poor isolated communities in remote mountainous regions of Central Asia, covers seven countries: India (Ladakh), Islamic Republic of Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Pakistan and Tajikistan.

Since Mr Vincent CHENG wants a better connection and since I respect him as a brilliant and eccentric banker (Laughter), a man of undoubted talent and a potential minister himself, I can support the proposal to have a monthly closed-door meeting between all of the Executive Council and all of the Legislative Council, no holds barred and no subsequent complaints or misunderstandings or misrepresentations or leaking, which is a natural phenomenon.

Not only will this change in the positioning of various districts make it possible to accommodate newly-fledged industries, it will also be possible for some uncommon industries, such as traditional handicrafts like made-to-order coffin boards, wooden puppets and figures as well as musical instruments to find room for development and survival.

In two instances, such groups of young men preferred to remain near border crossings and not register with the Liberian authorities, and chose not to participate in programmes established by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to provide refugee assistance in secluded areas away from border crossings.

This increases their vulnerability, as distance and isolation have resulted in relatively high transport costs, and the quality and frequency of international shipping and air services are largely beyond their control.
