With a small population, limited resources and a relatively sizeable country, it has to constantly prioritize its interventions with available resources to ensure success.

Lebanon possesses no weapons that have an impact on or are detrimental to the environment and supports the agreements on disarmament, arms control and the observance of environmental norms, taking into consideration the concern caused by Israel on account of its possession and retention of an enormous arsenal of weapons of mass destruction, which could be detrimental to the environment even if not used.

Israel, the occupying Power, continues its illegal schemes and actions in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, particularly those aimed at entrenching its massive network of illegal settlements and so-called settlement “outposts” in the Territory that it has belligerently occupied since 1967.

Likewise, although I had hoped to focus a significant portion of my tenure as Principal Defender on legacy, outreach and building a pillar of the Court that could serve as a real counterbalance to the overwhelming power of the Prosecutor, I had to spend an inordinate amount of time administering a perhaps well-intentioned in theory, but bureaucratic and unrealistic, so-called lump sum fee structure, that not only wasted much time, but also led to internal struggle and conflicts between junior and senior defence lawyers within Sierra Leone, and clashes between international and national defence lawyers we mixed into trial teams.
