In 2010 and 2011, 53 participants from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan improved their knowledge and skills in producing and disseminating official statistics, including the Millennium Development Goals, through training conducted by the Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (SIAP).

Secondly, all of Gaza’s borders — including those at Karni, Sofa, Nahal Oz, Kerem Shalom, Erez and Rafah — must be opened and kept open continuously to allow two-way freedom of movement for people, goods and cash.

This included: (a) in 2005, Agrenska participated in the launch of ICORD and authorized the start of a network of centres that worked in the field of family programmes; (b) the Ministry built the centre after a visit to the Agrenska Centre in Gothenburg during 2008 and started a cooperation between the two centres; (c) in October 2007, Queen Silvia of Sweden, together with the First Lady of Estonia, Mrs. Ilves, inaugurated the Eesti Agrenska centre for families who have children with disabilities; Eesti Agrenska is situated in Tammistu, outside Tartu, in Estonia; the centre works in close cooperation with the Agrenska Foundation in Sweden; (d) the University Hospital in Newcastle in Australia started a family programme in line with the Agrenska model; (e) in order to start a better cooperation between the Nordic countries in the field of rare disorders, a project was started in which Mr. Olauson participated as a resource person.

The Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN-Women congratulated the members of the Executive Board elected on 10 November 2010 and the members of the Bureau elected at the organizational session of the Executive Board on 22 December 2010: as President, U. Joy Ogwu (Nigeria), and as Vice-Presidents, Zahid Rastam (Malaysia), Olha Kavun (Ukraine), Carmen Arias (Peru) and Magnus Lennartsson (Sweden).

Major new oil and gas pipelines commissioned in recent years include, among others, the BakuTbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline (from Azerbaijan through Georgia to Turkey), the Kenkiyak-Kumkol pipeline (from Kazakhstan to China), the Rockies Express natural gas pipeline system in the United States of America and the Trans-Panama oil pipeline in Panama.
