In his capacity as Rapporteur of the Advisory Committee, the Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to ESCAP presented the highlights of the activities of the Committee during the preceding year.

The Executive Committee greatly appreciates the effort of Islamic Republic of Iran to reduce ODS consumption and expresses the expectation that in the next two years, the Islamic Republic of Iran will continue the progress achieved, sustain and build upon its current level of CFC reductions to achieve complete CFC phase-out in order to comply with the Protocol’s reduction schedules and achieve its phase-out targets as stipulated in its Agreement with the Executive Committee, including efforts to prepare HPMP to address the HCFC accelerated freeze and phase-out schedule.

It is recommended that the Executive Board adopt the programme of work for Executive Board sessions in 2011, as a flexible framework, subject to revisions as appropriate in the course of the year.

Under the 1997 Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on Their Destruction, known as the Ottawa Convention, States parties are obliged to clear anti-personnel mines in mined areas within 10 years of the Convention’s entry into force, unless an extension is granted under the Convention.

It should also be recalled that the decision for the establishment of a programme of work for the 2009 session of the Conference on Disarmament (CD/1864), which represents the only programme of work that the members of the Conference on Disarmament have agreed to in more than a decade, provided for the establishment of a working group to discuss substantively, without limitation, all issues related to the prevention of an arms race in outer space.
