In addition, CONTRAMINAS continued its efforts to implement social and economic reintegration programmes to assist landmine survivors and the families of the deceased.

For example, a highly productive fishery that provided very little economic value would be placed in quadrant A; a very lucrative recreational fishery that focused on a few high-value species that were stocked from aquaculture facilities would be placed in D.

The following priority areas/themes were mentioned for consideration in preparing document 35 C/5: freedom of expression and freedom of the press; increased emphasis on ethics, also in relation with action line 10 of the Geneva Plan of Action of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS); cultural diversity “of the media” and “in the media”; the promotion of multilingualism; media and a culture of peace; the role of knowledge in societal development; the role of ICTs in building knowledge societies, an area in which the Information for All Programme (IFAP) could play an active role; and support for regulators in Africa.

Some of the elements of a vision for a lowcarbon transport system could include: (a) dense, but green, and mixed-use cities that provide jobs, and shopping and leisure facilities close to people’s residential areas; (b) modern, high-quality links between the centres and good integration of long-distance hubs with local transportation; (c) high-quality alternatives to individual car use, in particular efficient public transport and good non-motorized transport infrastructure and its proper integration; (d) efficient, intermodal freight transport and smart urban logistics that also include clean vehicles; and (e) advanced technologies such as hybrid engines, alternative fuels or even electric motorbikes and cars.

According to the Law on Education, these implement complementary activities to the educational process at all types of schools, including lyceums with the purpose to develop the creative skills of pupils in the field of science, technology, arts, sports, tourism, etc., as well as beneficial and pleasant leisure management, whilst the activity of the extra-school institutions is financed from the state budget, the services of these institutions being usually free of charge, this making them available for all applicants irrespective of their origin, social adherence, religion, etc.

Interfaith International encouraged Cyprus to set up favourable conditions for the removal of restrictive measures, which would make it possible for the faithful to exercise their religious freedom and to visit places of pilgrimage annually, and to combat trafficking in women by setting up a mechanism for the reintegration of victims in social and economic life.

Participants suggested that UNESCO should support activities aimed at the unification of Africa and at inter-ethnic and interreligious dialogue in certain subregions of Africa and should also initiate action to help prevent conflicts through activities in education and communication.

Machinery and machine tools, petrochemicals, electrical and electronic goods, computer and information and communications technologies (ICT) equipment, steel and steel products, and toys and leisure equipment were among other developing country industrial exports to be affected.
