States parties have a due diligence obligation to prevent, investigate, prosecute and punish such acts of gender-based violence.

The biannual review of the Peacebuilding Commission in December 2008 reaffirmed the need for all parties — the Government of Sierra Leone, the Peacebuilding Commission, the United Nations, bilateral and multilateral partners and other relevant stakeholders — to remain focused and as dedicated as ever and to be promptly forthcoming in addressing their respective commitments.

(Responsibility and Liability) Attribution of responsibility, due diligence, liability for high-risk activities and civil liability are no doubt critical issues to be considered in connection with the State’s obligations under preceding paragraphs 19 to 23.

(f) Offer a year-long activist enrichment programme to develop young professionals into committed and knowledgeable human rights campaigners.

Work with the Government to improve procurement processes, including establishing additional measures to ensure due diligence in international contracting procedures.

In its resolutions 14/12 and 17/11, the Human Rights Council underlined the duty of States to exercise due diligence to prevent violence against women and girls and protect victims and urged Member States to accelerate their efforts in that regard.

Article 2 also imposes a due diligence obligation on States parties to prevent discrimination by private actors.

(b) Other forms of violence against women and girls, including domestic violence, and harmful traditional practices, including forced and early marriage, as well as failure by States, resulting in a climate of impunity, to exercise due diligence to prevent such violations and to adequately and in a timely manner investigate, prosecute and punish the perpetrators, failure by States to provide adequate protection, support and reparation for victims and their families, including medical and psychological care, and failure by States to ensure access to justice

The Advisory Committee was informed that the proposed increase in resources under investment costs would be used to: (a) strengthen the team of investment professionals; (b) reorganize the back office to support new systems, workflows and accounting standards; (c) enhance due diligence and compliance monitoring to mitigate increased risk; (d) expand and enhance the Information Systems Section with the broad range of skills necessary to implement and support an industrystandard information technology investment environment and a strengthened structure to manage complex projects and mission-critical systems; and (e) build additional capacity in the form of staff resources and services for the increasing contractual and administrative workload facing the Division.

It continued to rely on the work of OAI, particularly on the due diligence review process for audits of NGO/NIM projects.

(f) The failure by States, in contravention of their human rights obligations, to exercise due diligence to prevent all forms of violence against women and girls and adequately investigate and prosecute such crimes, punish perpetrators and provide compensation, protection and assistance to victims and their families

The Prosecutor continues to seek due diligence from Kenya in the discharge of its international obligations pursuant to Security Council resolution 1966 (2010) by expediting work on the tracking and arrest of this top-level fugitive.

She challenged Committee members to do their part in preparing pledges for the ministerial-level meeting to commemorate the fiftieth and sixtieth anniversaries of the statelessness and refugee conventions.

ARTEK also disposes of a large number of experienced and committed young staff – 630 teachers and 1,400 attendants –, directed by an experienced Director-General (see also the website at www.artek.org in its entirety available in Russian with an English homepage).

Before I conclude, I would like to acknowledge once more the dedicated and outstanding work UNAMA is carrying out in fulfilment of its mandate, in the face of very real and serious threats in Afghanistan.

Exercising due diligence is also a means to manage risks to the Organization, in particular the risks to its reputation through potential links to any adverse human rights impact.

With the addition of a sixth expert for natural resources, the Security Council, by paragraph 6 of resolution 1952 (2010), expanded the mandate of the Group of Experts to “areas affected by the presence of illegal armed groups, including North and South Kivu and Orientale Province”, as well as on regional and international networks providing support to illegal armed groups, criminal networks and perpetrators of serious violations of international humanitarian law and human rights abuses, including those within the national armed [...] [...]

(c) Taking action to ensure that, for the part of the life cycle they control, appropriate and effective stewardship activities are undertaken, and for the areas where they are not in direct control but have influence, they work with other actors in the life cycle to ensure they also do their part.

Stresses that States have the obligation to promote and protect all human rights and fundamental freedoms of women and girls, and must exercise due diligence to prevent, investigate, prosecute and punish the perpetrators of violence against women and girls and provide protection and support to women and girls who have been subjected to violence, and that failure to do so violates and impairs or nullifies the enjoyment of their human rights and fundamental freedoms

He has also undertaken a number of financial due diligence and lead advisory projects, including the recent acquisition of a UK manufacturing group by a Chongqing-based, Hong Kong Listed, State-controlled company, again the first transaction of its kind.

His report on corporate responsibility had discussed the due diligence corporations must exercise when engaging in or planning activities that would affect indigenous people, including identifying how indigenous peoples might be affected [...] [...]
