Citing his experience of applying for evaluation of new drugs for the treatment of Dementia whereby the membership of DAC did not comprise experts in the specialty when considering the application, Dr PAN Pey-chyou asked whether consideration could be given to inviting experts from the relevant specialties to take part in the meetings of DAC to provide the committee with specialist views on the drugs under consideration and answer questions from members.

The Advisory Committee was informed that this approach provides the following benefits: (a) significant worldwide discounts for all locations; (b) speedier diagnosis of problems, thereby minimizing unplanned downtime of the Organization’s networks; and (c) interoperability, which reduces finger-pointing among multiple vendors when incidents occur and also allows implementation of common end-user procedures for telephones at all offices.

Considering the commitments of El Salvador as a State party to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women and bearing in mind the observations made by that Committee on the seventh periodic report of El Salvador with regard to health, expressing concern about vulnerable groups of women, in particular in rural areas, who still have difficulty in accessing health-care services; inconsistent statistics on maternal mortality; the high incidence of births among adolescents, which have a negative impact on women’s physical and mental health; the limited effectiveness of sex education programmes for girls and boys in school curricula; and the lack of information on HIV/AIDS, as well as the feminization of that phenomenon.

Efforts at development of human capacities in least developed countries have been affected by high incidence of poverty, mass unemployment, high population growth rates, poor health and nutrition outcomes, as evidenced by high child and maternal morbidity and mortality rates and the high burden of undernutrition, the prevalence of communicable diseases, including HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis and polio, and the growing burden of non-communicable diseases.
